|
|
I've been on an E2 for 5 years now but am pregnant and expecting next April. My E2 will expire the following August and I plan on taking 6 months off work after that.
My husband's on an E2 as well (his expires at the same time but he'll be renewing) - can I just go to immigration with the marriage certificate and apply for the F3 or is it more complicated than that (I assume it is...)? |

It is a complex process.
You and your husband need to go to immigration (he will be your sponsor).
You will need:
Your passport
Your ARC
His passport
His ARC
HIS certificate of employment (proof of employment)
Proof of family relationship (wedding certificate in Korean or English).
Application
60k won
It usually takes about 30 minutes at the counter and a week to process your new ARC and return the ARC/passport to you.
The other documents will be returned to him at the time of the application.

I did this in September when my contract ended (I had a baby here in October!)
ttompatz is 100% correct! but make sure you bring a copy of the marriage cert with you because you aren't going to get it back. I made sure and asked the guy at the counter. In a week your amended ARC and passport will be returned to you. |

If you have been in Korea on an E2 visa consistently for 5 years, you can apply for an F2 Visa.
It is called an F2-99.
Why would you want an F3 ????? (Presuming you qualify for the F2-99, of course).
Question....How long have you currently been on your E2 Visa? |

I'll have been on it for 5 years.
I can't find any information at all about the F2-99 - how do you qualify? Is it points based? |

You have been misinformed.
From the Hikorea website.
Foreigner that has domestic residence over 7 years of continuous stay in ROK with the status other than Diplomacy (A-1), Official Business (A-2), or Agreements (A-3) and who is accepted by the Minister of Justice
- However in case of Professor (E-1), Foreign Language Instructor (E-2), Research (E-3), Technological Guidance (E-4), Special Profession (E-5), Specially Designated Activities (E-7), Who has domestic residence over 5 years of continuous stay in ROK with the status and who is accepted by the Minister of Justice.
You will need the following.
1) 5 years on one of the above E Visas
2) A Korean (Preferably of higher standing i.e. Doctor, Dentist, Manager etc etc) to sponsor you. An F2 Visa, is after all, a sponsorship Visa. It's usually the Korean spouse that sponsors you.
3) Have a letter written up in English titled "What I have done for Korea in the past and what I intend to do for Korea in the future." This should also be translated into Korean.
4) Any additional qualifications that you may have. TESOL course or Korean Proficiency (한국어능력시험)
5) Take a Korean (someone you trust) with you down to Immigration and make the application.
6) Immigration cannot, by themselves, issue the Visa. The application has to be sent to the Ministry of Justice. They will make a decision.
