I have been doing online shopping for quite a while, either in China or here in Korea. I had never tried ebay until--

Last month I finally registered an ebay account and ordered some Beijing Olympics commemorative coins online from an ebayer who had almost all positive feedbacks (I collect coins) .

3 sets, 6 coins in each set. $3840 (including shipment).

I asked the ebayer to send it to Beijing and my brother-in-law helped me recieve it.

When he opened the package, he found 4 coins from 2 of the 3 sets were damaged (because they didn't pack it well, they'd have inserted some cushion in it). and there was no certificate for 1 of the sets as they claimed there was.

I sent them email asking for a refund, they agreed to accept the return, but they told me they would only accept the intact and undamaged goods, and would not give a full refund if things are missing or damaged, and they insisted there are certificates for all coins.

I've reported this to ebay and opened a case, but I still feel hopeless, because

1: There is no way I prove anyone the damage was caused by shipment which due to their careless package.

2: There is no way I prove anyone there was no certificate for some coins when I recieved the package.

btw, they told me the coins were insured before they sent them to me.

Thanks for reading my story, I wonder anyone had similar experience and any advice I can win the case???

It wouldn't surprise me if the Chinese authorities decided to have some lulz with your package before your brother got it.

I thought of that, but only the certificates were missing not the coins, and I also don't believe the damage was caused by the evil chinese authorities, thanks.

sorry to hear that....did you pay via paypal? You might be able to get the charges reversed. Good luck...

Thanks very much, Marakano, I used paypal, but I just wonder if paypal or ebay would believe me and agree to give my money back.

I have contacted them so now I am waiting for the results.

I recieved a response from ebay after I opened the case:

Hi XXX,

We let the seller know the item wasn't as described.

The seller has offered you a full refund for the purchase price plus original shipping if you return the item. To get your refund, ship the item back to the seller. You will need to cover the cost of returning the item. Make sure you ship the item by Dec 13, 2010.

Refund information:
Once the item is delivered to the seller, you will receive a full refund of $3,840.00.The refund will include the purchase price plus original shipping.

Seller's message to you:
"This item was sent to the buyer 100% intact and with all the proper certificates as described in the auction listing. We feel that the buyer is trying to unfairly manipulate us with dishonest accusations that we did not include all the paperwork. In over 31 years of business and thousands of eBay transactions, we have never been accused of this. We believe in honest, fair dealings and our feedback ratings attest to this. We have argeed for the buyer to return everything intact, and return shipping fees to be paid by the buyer, per our ebay policy stated in the listing: Item must be returned within 7 days after the buyer receives it Refund will be given as Money Back The buyer is responsible for return shipping costs. David Lawrence Auctions"

so its likely I will get my money back but I have to pay for the return shipment. I still feel so angry because I should not have even paid for the return shipment since its not my fault at all, and they are still lying!!!! and said I was unfairly manipulating them....speechless.....there was only one truth, God knows it.

Could anyone please tell me if the US customs will charge duty for the gold once I return them? If the seller refuses to claim them from the customs once it is detained , what should I do? Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

might sound obvious but make sure you have it sent as recorded/signed for delivery so they can`t claim they didn`t receive it. Good to see there has been some progress made anyway.

Don't worry about that Panda; it's not your problem, that would be their problem. All ebay needs is the tracking #, and you will get a refund. I would be courteous and mark "gift" on the package to bypass duty fees. Good luck.

I ended up spending $150 to send them back again ....which of course was paid by myself.

It is a good lesson.
