Over the last week, I've noticed alot of soldiers out and about Icheon... not in the general, "I'm going out to meet my girl, but wearing my uniform so I can try to look cool" way, but as in, walking in groups of 5-10 carrying their weapons.

Seen a few transports full of soldiers on the move too. One with about 20 fully armed guys drove by and went to the elementary school, though it went outta sight, so I couldn't see where it stopped.

Then today, I hear this loud noise... I look out the window and there's two tanks with guys at the guns just rolling down the road.

What the hell is going on?

Don't they usually do joint-operations training around this time of year?

The war games are starting soon I think. Anyway, if the North invaded, there wouldnt be much warning.

Ah, thanks for the info.

I grew up near a naval base and within the defense industry, so I am certainly used to seeing military equipment around. But never troops with guns just strolling around the city looking like they have no place to be. And when we move tanks around America, we generally put them on flatbeds so they don't damage the roads and put unneccessary miles on the tanks. But given that the Korean tanks I saw were hopelessly outdated, I guess it doesn't really matter.

Realistic Korea-U.S. Joint Training
On March 26, the police guard the Korea-U.S. joint training at Pohang, Kyungbuk, from the protests of The Union of Korea College Students.

They also need training to protect themselves from South Koreans. South Koreans give even less warning than North Koreans.

If the north invaded, you'd be dead before you heard about it. Comforting thought, really.

Your post reminded me of the first time I ever called home from Korea... an air raid siren started going off and my mom lost it....started yelling at me for going to Korea. Laughing

I wanted to go to Vietnam before i came here to teach but my mum went balistic and said why dont i just kill myself now instead of those terrorist getting me. Then I say, Hey mum, werent you in the Vietnam war and wasnt dad in the RAF and involved in defending other various countries.

That always makes me laugh.

I think we need an assisation attempt on the North Korean dude to spice things up a bit.

You vastly overestimate North Korea's ability to lay down mass destruction.

I agree with Gord. We will not turn to ashes instantly. We will hear warnings and have plenty of time to go down south.

plenty of time to go south...? - i doubt it if you live in seoul. it's likely that if the north were to invade, they would lob artillery at seoul and the US bases. if you live near neither, then you are pretty much okay. they have no oil, so how can they really drive tanks across the DMZ or even fly planes? it's estimated that the whole event would last for maybe 30 minutes and approximately 1~2 million people would die - the majority in seoul.
