Did you just escape from North Korea? Did you not realize that this is how a capitalist society works?

Dude,

They own the hakwon. They want to make a profit as any businessperson would....

I don't see what the outrage is here.

Also just because you see them sitting around sometimes it does not mean they do nothing all the time...thinking that means you have tunnel vision. Wink

Your boss does something. he/she risks for the business. He/she put up the capital to start the business. Have you been reading Karl Marx, by any chance?

If your boss is not violating the contract, you don't have a right to complain. Kids are rude at all hagwons. It's the nature of Korean brats and stupid parents who don't know how to teach their kids any manners.

I feel your anger. It's a cruel world. Those with cash make more cash while others toil for pennies. They greedy get greedier, that's the way it is. No sense in fighting it. Just save your money and you can be on the other end someday.

[quote="Homer"]Dude,

I don't see what the outrage is here.

My outrage is that I am working harder, more hours etc. they changed the schedule 6 months into the contract making us work 4 and a half hours more than we were before with no extra compensation. They just said the way we figure it is you were only working 25 hours a week before. NEWS TO ME! Rolling Eyes

I went from what was a good schedule where I was paid overtime, to a schedule where I work 4 and a half more hours a week and get no overtime. Twisted Evil

I just think that a 'smart' businessman would look around and think of why all these students are here?, why they are staying?, especially considering the economy situation.

If it is causing you this much angst, get out of there. From a schedule point of view and hours worked, what does your contract state. Has your director breached the terms of the contract, if not, then what is the beef. Next time negotiate the terms to which you will be satisfied to work. Smile

Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked
If they changed the contract, and you agreed to it.... that's one thing,
but if they just changed it and forced you to accept it, that's illegal.
Contact efl-law or get out of there. Shocked

Teachers are not salesmen?????? What banana boat did you just fall off of? Teachers have to sell themselves every day. Smile when your tired, angry, sick of the crap or just sick.

I had a motorcycle accident a few months ago and the owner came to the hospital where I was being fitted for a cast and asked me if I could work today!?! Shocked Road rash, severely sprained knee and arm, considerable amount of pain. All they see is the dollar signs. They dont give a rats caboose about us! All we are is money maker robots.

I make sure my students have fun, learn something and come back. If you think that is not salesmenship you are very naive! Rolling Eyes

Grotto...

I do not think what you mentionned about your daily activities is salesmanship...its teaching.

However, I can see your analogy...no worries.

Still the fact remains that even if you see yourself as a having to sell yourself everyday it does not entitle you to a salary based on how many students are in the school.
Perhaps the better word would have been shareholder or inverstor.
Your neither of these. You are a teacher. Hence you get paid a salary and not by the number of students.
Did you invest any money into the business? Did you contribute to the initial cash investement to start this business?
Did you pay some of the expenses of this business?.

Nope.Nope.Nope....hence you do not deserve one 10 won coin more then you earn as a teacher because the school has more kids then when you got there.

As stated by others, if they changed your contract without your agreement, take measures (of the legal kind).
Otherwise I don't see what you have to stand on.

Finally, I did not fall off a banana boat (how does one fall off such a boat anyway? Laughing ).
I landed here from an airplane...you know grotto, a-i-r-p-l-a-n-e...its those things with wings that fly in the sky...you see them when you are lying on your back in the field scratching your fleee infested head...oups was that an insult...nawww it was just a bit of back and forth...enjoy it?
