So basically they're wanting someone that's a doctorate in ESL? Sheesh.

I thought the only people that got doctorates in ESL were those that had been in the game so long they had nothing better to do. Of course it's gonna pay a ton.

For a job that requires 5+ years of study PLUS at least 5 years of full-time teaching experience PLUS publications, it doesn't look that amazing to me. Just average.

yeah, 5 mill won a month isn't that amazing for those qualifications..,you'd make AT LEAST double that in the states, most likely more...but its pretty good pay for Korea, I guess.

I agree with the previous post. Based on the qualifications, they pay is actually pretty average or even low. A Korean professor with the same qualifications would be paid quite a bit more than that.

I disagree. Especially for a newly rewarded PhD holder, it's pretty sweet. If you look at the housing allowance, over 500/month, that gets you a nice place in Busan.

Considering you are saving more than 4mil/month easily without doing outside work, that's pretty nice.

Laughing These are the candidates that are going to put us out of jobs. Laughing Notice that the successful candidate will be teaching Korean English teachers how to teach so to speak. Laughing

I agree. It's a great deal, especially for a freshly minted PhD. Additionally, I'd wager, there is more to that package than is advertised: research grants, travel grants, annual raises, sabbaticals, a long term perspective, possibly bonuses...etc.

Salaries for TT Assistant profs in the humanities/social sciences in Can/US are lower than the salary advertised in that ad. Don't kid yourselves, academics aren't in it for the money, it's the intangibles that make being an academic life worth striving for.

I guess the 16 weeks (4 months) of holidays are not worth considering ....
