Wow, what a powerful film. It's one of the best films I've ever seen. I'll bet it will be a hit in Korea too. Inevitably there is violence in the film, but what you get out of the movie is not that at all. It's about the
grace of God, the love of God, the power of God... |

One of my fellow teachers told me that his class couldn't understand the controversy surrounding this film.
He had to explain to them that passion didn't mean fashion. |

| I know it's playing here now in Korea. I'd like to know if anyone here has seen it in Korea, and if there is English subtitles... or only Korean. I'd at least like to be able to read the translations. Thanks. |

I watched it in the cinema in the coex mall in Seoul. Screen 3 had English and Korean subtitles.
It was OK although the violence would have been more effective if used sparingly, one became desensitised to it quickly. |

| A friend of mine from Miami called it it "The Jerusalem Chainsaw Massacre." I'm not really interested. |

Yeah, the violence may have been overdone.
But, cannot for the life of me figure out why Americans of the Jewish persuasion were complaining. I thought the Romans looked much more worse than any of the Jews.
Sadly, I will admit that I wept like a baby during that one scene when Mary saw Jesus fall and had flashbacks to a young Jesus taking a spill. Must have been my Catholicism affecting me (or is it, effecting me?) |

| I totally agree, almost everybody I talked to about the film found that part of the film very moving where Jesus fell and his mother was running to him. I really enjoyed the film and I will get it on DVD. It is awesome to see on film how our savior died for our inequities and how we are saved due to his grace! It really is the most precious gift! The gift of life eternal. |

Our? Sorry, but not eveybody in the world is christian, and I think you (like so many others) are getting a bit too wrapped up in this movie, which is nothing more than a snuff film. |

True, not everyone in the world is a Christian, but that doesn't mean it's improper to use plural pronouns. Maybe Carcerate went with some friends and all of them felt this way.
A "snuff" film. So Gibson wants to make a movie about something he believes deeply in and it's "snuff"? There's nothing wrong with going to see this movie, take a look at the violence and think, "Is this really how the Romans treated the people they whipped and crucified? And if it is, how does that reflect humanity, even humanity today? What does it mean to me? Does it (cruelty) affect my life?"
I realize some people don't ask those sort of reflective questions when they see or read things about historical events, but after seeing this movie, I really did stop to think about the things in this world that really hurt my heart. Killing children, genocide, physical abuse, loss of family members, the even things that I do that hurt other people. Maybe there are some things that I need to change...
Anyway, it's a movie that can make you think introspectively, if you care to.

| we're due to see this with some Korean friends who invited us on Sunday night appropriately enough. Queston though - will subtitles be in Korean only or English AND Korean? Not too sure our Korean friends are thinking this one through on our behalf... not sure where we're going either though they did mention Myeong Dong. |

| I watched it at a drive in and there was no English. Only Aramaic and Latin when the Romans spoke, then Korean on the side as usual. I didn't miss that much, but then I've been schooled in some Latin basics and can also read hangul pretty well, so I got the idea. Anyway, it's a very physical movie, obviously, so even if that's not the case, you still won't miss much. There aren't too many subtleties. |
