It's anyone's call whether finding the local community is better or more counterproductive for assimilation, especially in the case of Koreans.
The main Korean community in the UK is in New Malden, just outside of London. There is enough Korean stuff inside London to keep one occupied but its mainly for students and whatnot, very cliched as well. |

I found the article the other day, they're turning the site into a massive data centre now, entirely new owners though not Korean related anymore,
I wasn't bashing you there, forgot to add that info after the link! I'm sure there would be some bits left of the korean community if some stayed and liked living there! |

My wife & I moved to The UK in 2008 and stayed for a year while I was at grad school. Since I would be a FT student, we had to provide evidence of financial independence. I think I had to show bank statements for 50 million or so.
We were together 5 years before we got married, but only got married a couple of months before she applied for the UK visa. This meant we had to provide evidence it wasn't a shot gun wedding or similar. She had to compile a portfolio of evidence comprising of emails dating back years (she kept them all, god bless her ) as well as photo evidence of us together.
The photo evidence isn't always accepted since it's often difficult to date. Fortunately, my progressively balding head was well documented by the photo evidence starting in 2004
It cost 1.x million to process and took her ages to compile. We heard of another couple whose visa was refused because of some BS reason with their application.
Anyway, I chose to live in Brighton since I thought it would be the least unbearable location for her in The UK to live. We arrived in a seaside town, at the end of the summer season, at the beginning of the financial crisis with winter approaching - in a borrowed camper van.
It's a long story but it took a few months for her to find her feet & a job. |

| Finding decent/fulfilling work is the main problem we had, when you have UK grads fighting to work in dominos pizza you know its a tough market for your missus. The odd good job requiring korean does crop up but they are few and far between. |
