Calling all experienced Seoulites! I'd really appreciate some help..

Due to unforseen circumstances I will have an entire day in Seoul tomorrow.... and I don't really know what to do, as I don't know the city at all.

The situation is that I fly in to Gimpo airport at 10am tomorrow morning... then I fly out of Incheon at 8.30am on Thursday.

I guess I am wondering if anybody can suggest a convenient motel in a decent area which is both easy enough to get to from Gimpo, and easy enough to travel to Incheon from the next morning.

It would also be nice if there was something to do in this area during the day, or close by. I'm thinking some kind of museum or attraction of Seoul that I should see while I'm there.

Any suggestions to make this day pass smoothly (bearing in mind I'm alone!), would be great Smile

can't help you with the motel bit, but you could chill at gwanghwamun plaza. It's a central area close to other attractions. But it'll probably be cold. They have some museums if you want to be indoors, nothing big I think. If you want to be indoors, then COEX is a good place to hang around. But it's further southeast from gimpo.

What sorts of things are you after? Movies, food, museums, or historical places?

COEX is a large shopping mall with a big Megabox movie cinema and tomorrow is opening day for Tron Legacy. The large state of the art movie theaters tend to be nicer than the ones back home so it's an experience to go see a new movie. Then they have Itaewon where there are international restaurants, foreigner bars, and a couple marts selling things like big 2 pound blocks of Tillamook brand cheese and green limes from the USA.

They have the national museum at Ichon station, but if you've been to many large museums in the US and Europe, it's not incredibly interesting. There are the 5 large reconstructed palaces draped in fluffy white snow for all show. I would 2nd a visit to Gwanhamun. It's like the monumental city center area with a statue of King Sejeong. After seeing the big statue, look for the big cone shaped snail shell and walk towards it to enter the stream walk.

There are many shopping areas. Namdaemun market is one of the more interesting traditional markets. While very Korean on the outside, the underground level sells import stuff and other luxuries. Shopping of some sort seems to be every where.

There is tons of info about Seoul by searching searcheslcafe.com what it is you are trying to find.
