Anyone recently change the region and language of your Korean wii? I have a softmodded wii 3.3k and I am wanting to update it and change the region.

I found this on wiihacks
http://www.wiihacks.com/other-faq-guides-tutorials/60224-region-change-any-wii-4-1-usa-euro-jap-kor.html

and it looks promising. Anyone try it?

Thanks.

Why would you risk it? The backup games will all play in English. The only Korean is in the wii menus....not that hard to figure out.

Korean wiis are notorious for bricking when tampered with. The machine is just different...it's the only region that doesn't have Gamecube compatibility without the use of a softmod.

While I agree with nukeday that you don't need to tamper with your Wii's IOS, I have found that the Korean Wii is rather robust.
I hacked the crap out of mine a few years ago. This included changing the region in a nail-biting experience that took about 25 minutes.
There are programs and sites out there to help you. You need to do some research and study before you attempt this, as it is probably the biggest hack you could do.

Yes you can brick your Wii easily if you don't know what you are doing. Just make sure that all the hacks you use state explicitly that they are ok to use with K Wiis.

Wiihacks.com is a great place to start. Read through the tutorials and educate yourself so that you don't brick.

IMPORTANT: I'm not up to date on the current Wii hacking scene, so I have no idea if methods and tools have changed in the last couple of years.

I'm pretty sure I followed that exact same guide this past summer, and had success, and now have everything in English. Mauifrog is helpful, and his guides are clear. Still, though, be careful.

Good luck!

Wish I'd known this sooner. I should have known that there is a jailbreak or hack for any type of region-coded device.

I just bought a Wii from the States and having it shipped over. It's the new red color.

You can probably get the guys at Yongsan to mod a US wii. Unlike the other consoles, there's really no reason NOT to mod the Wii...you can still play online, etc.
