Damn! If only we'd had video phones back when I was a boy at Christian Brother's College, Kalgoorlie. |

ya probably deserved it. some of my students really ask for me to smash em too but alas.. we must follow procedure.
hitting a girl in the face is a bit much... but some of the boys... man... they practically say 'teacher.. please punch me in the mouth as hard as you can' (high school students).
its pretty scary that this is now possible. if i see a phone in my class i keep it for a week. the new students tried me out & they soon found out it was no fun without their desperately needed hand phone. i haven't seen a phone in my class for ages.. |

i'm not too tough on the translators.. the few times i have caught students using them when i could think of no possible reason why... they were actually doing something related to the topic at that time... if i see somebody using 1 i walk straight over and check what they are translating and 95% of the time it was legit.
no books on the desks.. no paper... just my handout, a dictionary and a pencilcase..
they keep my handouts in a folder. if we are continuing work from a previous lesson.. they take the paper out and put the folder away
after the first few minutes it takes to clear the desks, if anything else appears, it goes straight in the trash

Man all I gotta say is if that was my daughter taking a full fist to the face...the baseball bats in my car would have blood on em, cause I'd take it to the guy's face.
Hope he gets fired. |

I'd like to have a swing at that soft *beep*... a full fist to the face of a girl... this guy should be left to fend for himself in a cage with parents of kids at that school |

Korean teachers rely on harsh punishment and violence, they never have to develop their style and flair as teachers. Most korean "teachers" would lose the plot in 5 minutes if they had to deal with what we foreign teachers have to on a daily basis- with no help support, or recourse to discipline..
I think we all show remarkable restraint and self control, often in the face of extreme provocation.
The average Korean teacher has no patience, no exciting or entertaining lesson style, no ingenuity. I know. I've observed their lessons.
I remember one time my director thought he'd show me how to teach properly. this was at my first job. He dictated gobbledygook to the petrified kids at breakneck speed for about 25 minutes solid. when one out of breath kid showed some sign of insolence, he lost the rag utterly and started whacking this 7 yr old kid full force on the chest and back.
Imagine if he'd been dong-chimmed? |

That isn't discipline, that is assault. As a previous poster stated, if it was my kid, I would give him a taste of his own medicine. It should be emailed to one of the newspaper. It's a crimminal act, not teaching. |

Whoa.. thought for a moment it was a foreign hogwon teacher.
Finally got it to load... thats brutal.. but tales from past students tell me its not terribly uncommon especially in high schools.
Anyone want to translate a selection of the comments from Koreans? |

If i was that girls father he would be in a lot of trouble.
I'm happy he was caught because I'm sure it wasn't the first time he had done it.
I was talking with my g/f tonight about it and she said in her girls high school, her teacher was a psycho. he beat a female student worse than that, from one end of the room to the other and nothing was ever done. She said he was a major pervert who would feel up the girls legs(my g/f kicked him in the balls when he tried so he never did it again ) but he got outed last year.
I see video hand phones have a good use after all. This could be the beginning of major changes where there are cameras in the classrooms(could you imagine it). I think this could be the start of a lot of similar cases coming foward.
i hope he gets the shit sued/beat out of him. |

The teacher was reported to have beaten the student out of anger after she talked back while being reprimanded for not having opened a bank account for school fees.
The television news aired an interview of the girl, saying, "I admit I answered somewhat rudely, but I don't think I did something that wrong to be beaten in front of 35 classmates."
