Got my itinerary from my hagwon and I'm going to be boarding on Monday morning, bright and early.
Has anyone had an success coming up with ways to entertain oneself for these absurdly long flights? I believe it's going to be somewhere in the area of 19 hours flight time with stopovers in Toronto and Vancouver.
I flew home two months ago and I doubt Air Canada is going to have updated it's movie database in that time which means I've probably seen all the movies offered on the plane. That and watching movies for 19 hours straight doesn't work for me. I don't have a laptop, either.
What do you recommend and--anyone know of any over the counter sleeping pills that do the trick? Thanks. |

2 Benadryl knocks me out pretty good.
Failing that, bring a good book and an iPod? |

Audiobooks and free booze. Real books and free booze. Walking around the cabin occasionally and free booze. |

I just went home through air canada for xmas vacation and in the 2 weeks I was there, they updated their movie database substantially. I was wondering if they would, but of the 20 or so movies they had on there, only 2-3 were the same as when I went over vs came back.
They'd also updated the TV database a bit. The "world" movies hadn't been updated though.
Can't speak to the rest.
I mostly just watched movies. I had books/psp/iphone/etc but mixed in with a little sleep, it wasn't bad.

Awesome! I really, really, really didn't want to watch "Salt" again out of desperation. That was a horrible movie but it was the only mildly appealing movie on the list when I was flying back here.

I'll do everything except the booze. Drinking only gives me headaches and an upset stomach, unfortunately.

I'm not feeling the part about the iPad or the legality... however I could rip a bunch of shows to my video/MP3 player. Thanks for the idea. |

Ask for an upgrade when you check in. It helps if you're dressed nicely. With low numbers flying these days it wouldn't be unusual to bet bumped up to business class.
Try to get up and walk around for a few minutes every couple of hours. Go into the bathroom and stretch. |

Last time I saw Air Canada start bumping people to business class though, they went straight for the old ladies and the disabled. Young, able bodied guys like me weren't even considerations
Though I did get bumped to business class on Eastern China airlines because the plane was only about 40% full. The seats had a built in massage. The stewardesses actually looked like stewardesses. It was wonderful. |

My flights both ways were jam packed. When we landed in Vancouver the ceiling started leaking and soaked me. I tried to get a seat change, not even an upgrade and nothing was available. Even though the flight was continuing on though they changed planes so it was okay.
But since they entirely changed planes and crew, I can't see why our outbound flight was delayed due to our inbound flight being a little late. It didn't take them 1.5 hours to transfer over the luggage of the people continuing on. 6 flight segments and not one of them on time, but hey after 20-22 hours what's another hour or two here and there. |

It's standard procedure for airlines to have different media depending on which way you're going, what with the whole round trip thing and all. |

I've flown probably 15 times round trip to Korea since 2000, a big pillow and a computer with extended battery life is the best bet, or drink alot. Korean Air is the best, the stewardesses are attractive and the beer is free, Air China upgraded my seat once to first class for no charge, I felt like a king. I just flew Delta back to the states and it felt like an old 747, the type I hadn't flown in ten years. Koreanair had the individual screens for watching movies, this Delta plane had one screen way up front and the console for plugging headphones in or turning the overhead light on didn't even work. Not to mention the old ass adjossis working as flight attendants. Getting a window seat can be good for leaning against, bad for getting up and walking around. The front row seats to stretch your legs out are real nice. |

Watch this before you go and appreciate the fact that you're not spending weeks or months on board a ship to travel internationally.

I have to make a ridiculously long flight coming up as well. It's with Air Canada my least favorite airline. Thai air has become the standard for regular smoes such as me.
I am bringing my PSP, an extra battery and a copy of Star Ocean and seeing how far I can get.
