Thanks Dave. Great stuff as usual. I really liked the Using Video in the Classroom: "Where is Matt clip?"

I've travelled extensively, and I use something similar (just photos of me in exotic locales) in my introduction lesson. I use these visuals (and a world map marked with my travels) to try and motivate students to learn to speak English. Many K kids/adults just don't realise what a fantastic big world it is out there - and that English is the key to the world's door.
Your Where is Matt video is a fantastic resource for subtly getting this message across.

Talking of classroom videos. I'm kicking myself for not using videos/recording classes in my 5 years in Korea. I've hundreds of photos of classroom stuff - but there's no doubt about it - good videos are a fantastic visual teaching tool - they really grab students' attention. A shame that I only learnt this at the end of my teaching stint. Interestingly, I tried to have a video school/camp this winter - and my middle school scuttled it ("Oh, you can't do that!").

Thanks - there are still quite a few of us out there doing "the right thing". I hope others coming a long do the same. We shouldn't make education into solely a commodity.

lifeinkorea. LOL, check your computer settings. If you think I'm making some covert ad - well, you don't know anything about what I've been doing with my time in Korea or elsewhere. But yes, I'm offering a cut rate course with first rate training. Something that is needed. Why? Because I can.

oldfart - yeah, video is powerful and especially with the new flip cameras. Get one, they really are crazily good for recording in class discretely but with quality. You'd also love, given your traveling (love that video too!) - http://woices.com/ Audio recordings from different parts of the world. students can add theirs. I have a whole pile of great geography links but will have to dig that up from EFL Classroom.... My fav. is a video 6 million others. Fully subtitled, amazing.

Thanks guys, just "getting it out there".

Yeah, been back in Canada a few months. finally settled in. Still doing stuff online with Korean teachers but taking this year to - "walk the talk". Meaning, I've always was a cheerleader for the possibilities of online learning - now want to do more than just preach.

But I will miss the regular classroom - can't replace that however hard it is on some (many) days, remember that when "being there".

Not easy to leave a cushy job but really wanted to be my own boss. My own curriculum and my passion and work ethic paying me back directly.
