Hello everyone,

I am a little crunched on time and am trying to figure out how long things may take as some of my documents are still out there.

I received my FBI background check back, but it didn't have a signature (wasn't authenticated), so I had to send it back. FBI in possession of it now, have heard 1-2 weeks to complete, then its sent back to me, then I have to send it on to Washington DC for the apostille (another 15-ish days), so up to a month from now until it is back in my possession. Unless I do an apostille service, which my recruiter has cautioned against, has anyone had problems securing a visa with that?

Has anyone had to send FBI check back for signature and how long did it take? How long did the apostille from DC take?

Teaching position beings March 1, unsure of training. So, how long does the visa process generally take? I have heard 8 days to 1 month. Not sure if I will make this deadline...thoughts???

Thanks!!!

I don't think that you will make it. Depending on where you live, I live in CA and I am going to take my copies of diploma's (Notarized, then apostilled) and my FBI background Check (Notarized then Apostille) to Sacramento to get them apostille. It should work.

How long has your background check been at the FBI so far?

I am in the same situation. I didn't have the seal and signature. I just sent it back to the FBI and it was delivered today. I called the FBI to see if I could get it rushed, but they said it would be 2-3 weeks before I'd have it back. (2-3 weeks just for them to sign it? ridiculous!)

Then I'm just going to hire a courier servce in Washington, DC to get my apostille. I dont have time to wait 15+ days.

I hope I have everything back in time. My position begins March 1st. I've been communicating with my new boss through email and he knows all the problems I'm having. He doesn't seem to be worried. I think I'm more worried than he is!

I hate that the FBI is so slow! I don't see why they don't just put the seal and signature on every background check. Its not like its that hard to do. That would make sense. I've heard a few people requested it and they didn't even put it on there.

The Actual visa process (from sending the documents to Korea till you get on the plane) takes 12-21 days.

Any delays beyond this are when the school leaves things sitting on a desk in their office and not at immigration.

The time-line is similar with a NOA with EPIK/GEPIK. After approval, 12-21 days.

My fbi check arrived back at the fbi today. So, we will see how long it takes!!!

None of the recruiters I have been in contact with seem very worried by it...but I don't see how it is going to happen.

Have there been problems with people using private apostille services and having their docs rejected?

How much does a courier charge to stand in line in DC for the apostille?

I called my secretary of state apostille office (Washington) about apostille, and woman said about 3 weeks there was a federal change that is not allowing any states to apostille federal documents any longer...anyone have any experience that goes against what she said? Can I mail my stuff to another state?

She's wrong. I've had a state office apostille a federal document.. My understanding is that different states have different policies with regards to EVERYTHING. My state has no hangups about slapping an apostille on a federal document. I think I just heard a member of the tea party shout: "STATES' RIGHTS!!!"
