You do need to get it authenticated. When you order your FBI check you have to specify on the application that you need it authenticated. Then take it to the notary then the apostille-I called and spoke with someone at the FBI (yes, there is a line where someone actually answers the phone!) and they confirmed that.

NO...You do NOT need the FBI to authenticate it, plus get a notary, and then get the DOS apostille. It's either:

1. The FBI authenticates it and you send it to the DOS in D.C. No notary needed. The FBI authentication IS the notary.

2. The FBI does NOT authenticate it like you asked them to, or you forgot to ask them to do so....If you are in the states, get a notary, then send it to DOS...OR if you are in Korea, go to the US Embassy, pay 60,000 won for a notarized affidavit, THEN send to the DOS for the apostille.

I am seeing we also need CBC with your home state, CA. Is this true even with the FBI CBC with DOS apostille?

Sent 12/24 my CBC request form w/ fingerprints CC form. charged CC 1/12 with DOS addressed envelope/$8 check and note requesting the DOS to apostille my FBI CBC. Lord willing I will get my CBC w/ apostille by mid Feb.

Can I xerox like 5 copies of my diploma and just go the the State building and get them notarized? I figure this will be needed in the future and my diploma is not going to change.

I am still in San Francisco. I am going down to San Jose State Uni and get additional sealed transcripts with school stamped signature. Is this smart or a waste of time?

Does anyone know if the FBI check needs to be authenticated for a California apostille? I requested one a few days ago but did not get an authenticated copy.

Thanks in advance!
