Hey thanks for the patronizing reaponse, and the incorrect assumptions. What's a 'blue badge' anyway?

It is not illegal for you to teach after school classes without a certified teacher in the room.

It is also not illegal for you to teach regular classes without a certified teacher in the room.

It is however against Ministry of Education policy to teach without a certified teacher in the room for regular classes. However, things do happen and you will be required to do this. Should it happen on a daily basis? No. But it is up to your administrator to make that decision. No one will get arrested or fined for doing it.

If it is a recurring issue and you are having a hard time with classroom management or if you feel it is a risk to the safety of the children for you to be alone with the kids then bring it up to your administrator and coteachers. Document that you did so. That way, when Joon-gyung stabs Min-ji with a boxer cutter you can just apply pressure and not have to worry about being blamed for it. Cover your A.

Thanks jrwhite. My position is that the room is seperated with anotheradult never in the room with me. I'm not too worried about legal issues for myself, just whether this company are breaking guidlines or laws to make extra cash by having two concurrent classes running on a permanent basis.

Typically, in a public school setting, you will NEVER have a co-teacher in class with you during the "after school" classes/program or during camps.

You should however usually have one in class with you during the regular classes (IF you are a PS-NET).

I have almost NEVER heard of a hagwan teacher having a co-teacher IN CLASS unless they were working with babies.

No co-teacher for 11 years.
Hopefully your students have a basic understanding of English.
