Which website can i go to if i want to check the movie schedules in English for the major cinemas like CGV in seoul?
Also does anyone know if any of the movie theatres have Korean movies with English subtitles?
Thanks |

they used to show subtitled korean films once a week at seoul selection and in jongno but that was a long time ago and i'm not sure about now
you're better off to close your eyes and just pick a film randomly
there are some great cinema complexes like piccadilly in jongno 3-ga
all the latest releases are there
anyway you'll learn alot more without subtitles - believe me
if you watch western films on korean tv or in the cinema and cross check some of the subbing you'll see that some of it is really dodgy
remember - all translators are traitors! |

Check out this website for movies and links for times, but the times are still in Hangul, so you'll probably need to call information 1330.
Here's a question though. You've been on this board since April 2008 and you can't read Hangul well enough to find movie times? Maybe it's time to learn it.
On the movie websites, you can look for 영문자막 which means "English subtitles". CGV Myeongdong has some shows with subtitles, but they tend to be at inconvenient times such as early in the morning or quite late at night. There are probably other cinemas that offer English subtitles on Korean movies, but I haven't got around to finding them all yet.
Hope this helps, and learn Hangul! It's not hard and you'll be so glad you did. |

A couple years ago they had a great English language subtitle program. Showings were always packed, by both foreigners and koreans alike. Saw a lot of movies that year. Towards the end of the year Cinus started treating the program like a dog that had eaten its baby and was only showing English subtitled movies between 10:01 and 10:04 AM on weekday mornings.
It became near impossible to get to a show unless you were jobless.
The next year, the government didn't renew the program with Cinus and this year they were showing the odd movie, but nothing reliable and sometimes films will show up for really short times.
Seoul City Blog doesn't show any films listed as playing in English since last August.
Best you can do is keep an eye on the listings, the korean sites will usually add 영문자막 to the title of the film indicating it has english subtitles. Yongsan had english subtitled films prior to these programs, so I expect they'll continue to do so. |

Type in "Seoul Movies" or "Pusan Movies" and the top link will be for google showtimes. After going there, if you have google translate turned on, you can see much of it in English.
Then finally click on the want you want and on the left is "map view" where it will show you where the theater is.
Google Rocks... |

CGV's website is pretty easy to navigate even if all you can do is read the city names. |

10 magazine lists "korean movies with english subtitles" every week:
http://10magazine.asia/2011/01/19/korean-movies-with-subtitles-this-week/
there are six cinemas in seoul that offer english subtitles...
i also use http://theyeogiyo.com/Entertainment/movies.php but it isn't always accurate/updated. so i usually go to "showtimes" on that site and choose the theater i want to go to, then i search the korean titles + "daum" in google and find the "movie.daum.net" website. it will have a photo and title of the movie in english so i can figure out what american films are playing! |

That's the first useful thing I've seen out of 10 magazine. Hopefully they'll keep it up. Some other places have listed them in the past, but often just stopped for no reason, I assumed it was because the movies weren't continuing as the program seems highly mismanaged. But the times are pretty useless.
a single showing a day at 12:00pm? how many english speaking people living and working here have time to real jet over for a movie at 12:00? you've either got class or work. Even if you're doing a hagwon you're cutting it close to finish at 2pm and get to work. |
