| I thought getting the CRC was a pain, but verifying them (and diplomas) seems like more of one. Canadians don't need it Apostilled, but it seems we have to send notarized copies of them to a Kor. Consulate in Canada (the exact one depends where it was notarized). It can't be done here? From looking on the site, the Can Emb. here can notarize things, but they still have to be sent to Canada, to a Kor. Consulate. I heard there's some place that could do it in Korea but they may not be accepting any now because of a backlog, or if they are, it could take 3-4 weeks. Who has been through this ordeal? Is there an easier, less time-consuming way? I have been waiting 10 weeks for a CRC already and seems will have to wait lots longer. |

| This is the problem, there seems to be no concrete rules or any one/site that can tell us what they are. Where did you hear that? |

| I found out, by calling the Korean Consulate in Toronto that we must send a copy of our degree (and the original, plus a sealed transcript) to one of the consulates in Canada. The copy of the degree must first be notarized by a notary public in the consulate's jurisdiction- this can be done by a friend, etc.. and will cost about $40. ONce notarized, it must be taken to the consulate where they will authenticate it for $4.40. CRCs also cost $4.40 to authenticate, but they don't need to be notarized, it just has to be the original CRC. The CRC can also be authenticated at the Cdn. Embassy here... |

And what do you do if you have no-one to do that for you in your consulate's jurisdiction? In my case I am an American that went to school in Montreal. My mates have long since left that shit-hole. And even if I did you think I'd put someone through that hassle? |

I'm in the exact same boat, and I had to have my dad drive up from Massachusetts to get it done (he's there right now). Pretty brutal. |

OP, or anyone else, how did you get your CRC? my friend was just turned down by the RCMP saying they will not accept international fingerprints anymore. this sounded strange to me since i know other teachers in korea have done this already. this is my reply from the RCMP:
Hello, A Vulnerable Sector search refers to criminal records verifications including both active and pardoned criminal records. Under Canadian legislation, the results of vulnerable sector searches that contain criminal record information may only be released to Canadian police agencies. In the case of people applying for vulnerable sector verifications to work in Korea, we will not accept requests with applications originating in Korea. We will accept this type of application if it originates from a Canadian police agency. If you require additional information, please email Civilian Fingerprints Services Section directly at [email protected]. All enquiries directed to this address will be answered within two to three business days. Thank you
nowhere in my original email did i ask about a vulerable sector search. i also read somewhere on daves that it isnt needed for korea, i have no idea if thats true or not. anybody have any thoughts on this?
EDIT: i called the canadian embassy in seoul again. they said that the rcmp will not do a vulerable sector search, as mentioned above, so you need to let the rcmp know that you dont need it done. |

Anyone else have info on this?
Apparently KCUE won't verify degrees anymore. So I have to get someone in Canada to do the legwork for me? Does anyone know if the Korean Consulate verifies on the spot or if the person helping me out will have to leave it there and then come back?
I'm hearing rumors of the RCMP rejecting foreign fingerprints now for the CBC...And then rumors that VISA requirements are not being enforced. My school is being useless here. Nobody seemjs to know anything for sure.
Edit: BTW will the Canadian Embassy in Korea verify my CBC still or must I have it done by someone in Canada? |

O man. This is a headache.
Is it time to give up on Korea and go back to Canada? |

@ voyeur: when i called the canadian embassy today, then said that once you receive your crc in korea, they will verify it. the embassy said you do not have to send it to the korean consulate in canada. i guess as long as you tell the rcmp that you do not need a vulnerable sector search, it 'should' be processed properly.
uhm...what is KCUE? the korean consulate i think?
about degrees, from what i have been told, is you have to send the original back home, get somebody to copy it and get it stamped by a lawyer or notary. then, send the original and the copy to the korean consulate where they make sure its official and add their stamps. they return it to your contact in canada (as long as you sent a return envelope)who then sends it back to you in korea. if your contact in canada can go there in person, i think they can stamp it the same day. they did it for me in toronto when i went in 2009.
as always, any extra info on this is great. |

KCUE was the Korean Council for University Education. They used to process degree verification from inside Korea. But soon after the changes, they decided to stop doing it throwing a wrench into the works.
Any confirmation from immigration proper that Embassy Confirmation of a CBC is acceptable? The Kroean Consulate in Ottawa said they had to do it and had never heard of the Embassy doing it. But they couldn't rule it out either.
Anyone know the best immigration contact number to confirm this? If the Canadian Embassy and Immi both say we can do it here, I'll be sold. |

| Two weeks ago I extended my visa at a Korean immigration office in Seoul without an RCMP CRC (it was still being processed in Canada at the time). Today, I received my CRC from the RCMP. Is it possible to show immigration my new CRC now so I don't have to do it in 2012 if I decide to extend my visa again? |
