Not gonna happen. If he wanted to pay the full amount, he wouldnt have cut your classes in half regardless of how many students you had.

yep. your probably right...

but the director said maybe we can find some extra duties for me to do..and we will be having a meeting about it

..so just wanted to see if anyone had any reasonable suggestions for duties in case the hagwan is willing to help out...

i can think of:
-1on1 classes for students
-journal marking
-internet classes

Are you actually paid hourly? I could lose every student I have and my school would still have to pay me in full.

I don't consider myself an expert, but I know a bit about the typical hagwon contract.

How is it that they are going to slash your pay? Don't you have a contract stating "the maximum" number of hours you will teach every month. This means that you could teach up to 120 hours a month (anything more is OT)....or.....5 hours a month. Regardless, you are getting paid your same salary for 5 hours a month or 120 hours a month.

Read your contract. This should be stated within the first three clauses somewhere.

Also, start looking for a new job and get your documents (apostilled copy of diploma, FBI CBC, etc...) in order immediately. It sounds like your hagwon is having some serious issues. Don't get caught a month or two down the line showing up at work with the doors locked and a sign on the door saying "School Closed".

If you are working at a hagwon, like CDL for example, that hires hourly employees:

Edit Journals or News Articles
Phone Teaching
Audio Recordings (Listening practice, "books on tape", etc...)
Make .ppt games for classes
Co-teach with a Kteacher

Either way, look for a new job now.

Have the kids write stories and make a paper.
Drama class.
Have the kids read short stories and then ask them questions.
One on one teaching is good.

we had a lot of grade 6's that will now move up to our middle school classes (february onwards) and the foreign teachers don't do the middle school classes...we haven't dropped in our student numbers...

i actually don't know if they plan to cut my salary in half, they haven't mentioned anything..i was just preparing for that scenario (in case). all that has happened is that they gave me the class schedule for february.

im not paid hourly,,,im on a contract 2.3 mil per month...so there is nothing in my contract that says i gotta do a minimum number of classes per month...so i could very well still be paid 2.3mil for doing only 12 classes.

but realistically it may be possible that the hagwan will want to change the contract....

Well they can't change it unless you agree to it. It's a contract.

If they want to knock you down to part-time you have two options.

1) Tell them no. They will HAVE to give you 30 days notice of termination unless you are under 6 months at the school.
2) Agree.
