If Korean universities started to offer recriprocity by allow foreign teachers the same right that is afforded to most Korean professors who go abroad and receive faculty tenure in the respective foreign nation. |

If you have the same qualifications, the same credentials you do have access to tenure track positions in Korea even if this takes a long time.
Now Korean PROFESSORS and foreign TEACHERS do not have the same QUALIFICATIONS and therefore do not hold the same POSITIONS at Korean Universtities.
PROFESSORS hold Phds, publish and contribute through research.
TEACHERS hold a MA and sometimes a BA, do not publish much and do little to no research in most cases, they therefore are INSTRUCTORS or GUEST LECTURERS.
KOREAN PROFESSORS who get TENURE in CANADA for example, have a Phd, an extensive list of publications in their field, a solid track record of research and typically speak ENGLISH at the expert level. |

All the commas and punctuation would never be enough to get you to see that there should be a "quid pro quo" for tenure faculty positions given to Non-Koreans in exchange for the same number of tenure positions given to Korean faculty abroad.

No offesne OAB, but your OP errs on multiple levels. So much so that Patrick is the only one who could figure out exactly what you are saying. Could you edit it with some commas or punctuation or whatever it needs to be a coherent sentence so others know what you are talking about? |

If you want to have a substantive discussion and not engage in ad hominem let me know. |

I understand now. Thank you for being more clear in your response. (As you can see from 3 other readers, no one had any idea what you were saying...)
I actually agree with your views for the most part.
I just couldn't figure out what they were from your original post.
If a foreign professor is hired under the same contract as a Korean professor, and is equally qualified, I don't see why they can't attain tenure.
However, comparing foreign professors in Korea to Korean professors abroad doesn't really matter. What matters is the terms of your agreement with the school. |

It wasn't ad hominem. The problem with your OP is that it's not a complete sentence. |

OAB,
Your posts contain a lot of vitriol but very little substance -- and your prose borders on incomprehensibility....
Do you know of a single, tenured Korean professor at an American university? Who and where? What is your source? You may be right -- it may be impossible for non-Koreans to get a tenured position at a Korean university...but show me one Korean non-American that has such a position in America...then show me your sources. Then compare the sheer number of those opportunities in America to the number of those opportunities in Korea, and see if the percentages do not match up....
Incidentally, why are you so angry about it? Your rage makes your arguments nearly incoherent.... |

Although it may be true that on one hand there is a certain, if you wish, je ne sais quoi, that albeit towards the opposite direction in the sense that one might not actually give into similar situations that could arise and that on the other hand if one were to express such feelings, it is clearly a matter of culture be it here or else where to the degree that it is not only true but also 100% untrue; thus, we should update this situation at the global level. |

I know a Korean born professor in the US. I suspect it might be difficult to secure a position with a Korean Ph.D. though (the one I know has a U.S. Ph.D.)
There are tenure track foreign faculty at the university I work at. Tenure does take a rather long time here and it is not surprising none are tenured yet. Not sure whether that will ever happen. In general U.S. universities have a much more diverse faculty than Korean universities do. |
