From a hagwon. What would I do? I'm talking before 6 months into my contract. I heard someone say I wouldn't need a LOR.

That said, I wouldn't just bail either.

You would need to quit, get your visa transfered or cancelled and renewed.

This means your current employer needs to either transfer your current visa to your new employer (it will then need to be extended if that is possible) but more likely, your current visa needs to be cancelled and you need to apply for a new one for your PS position.

If all this happens before you pass the 6 month point in your current contract you will likely have to repay the airfaire that was provided to fly you over and will likely forgo severance for your current job.

Your visa needs to be offically cancelled at immigration by your employer.

IF you are leaving before you contract completes you DO need a LOR.

If you are transferring at the end of the contract you no longer need a LOR.

If you are quitting and won't get a LOR then your ONLY option is to leave Korea, turn in your ARC to cancel your visa, return and apply for the new job (new documents required) then do a visa run to Japan to get your new visa.

Thanks. Would this mean I need to get a whole new set of docs if the visa is cancelled? I would hope they have things like that on file by now.

That depends, as tom outlined above.

From your OP I gather you would be changing 6 months into your current job then you need a LOR.

Yeah I was just confused by this quote:

"You don't need a letter of release if you switch to a public school, nor is there any minimum amount of time you need to have been working on your E2 before you switch it to them. You will need a LOR if switching to a new hagwon"

Didn't need a LOR because they had their visa canceled, got an exit order, went to Japan and got a new visa.

No longer an option (they quit issuing exit orders to cancel the visa when people quit).

NOW, you need your boss to go with you to cancel your visa if you are not leaving the country to cancel it. The other option is a LOR and transfer to a new employer (after 6 months).
