Posted: Fri Feb 04, 2011 5:03 am Post subject: (5 days left) Books, household items to sell, free stuff. |
|
|
We're moving soon and it's time to lighten ship. This thread began mostly with books but now we're adding on more and more household items as moving day approaches. I live in Gangnam near Coex, but closest to Cheongdam Station on line 7.
Books:
Most of these books are about learning other languages or written in other languages, and I've put all the English books on the top. Prices are a quarter of the original price, lower if they are old or really used. We are also selling some other household things that I'll note below:
Regular English books:
* Blink, Malcolm Gladwell. About the instinctual judgment acquired by experts. Hardcover, 4000.
* Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky, 2000.
* The Hobbit, softcover. 1500.
* The Rough Guide to Iceland - 5000.
* The Ayatollah Begs to Differ. 5000. About Iran, new foreword added after the election in 2009.
* Frankenstein, Mary Shelly. 4000.
Language textbooks and dictionaries for English speakers:
* Oxford French Minidictionary - 2000. Small, somewhat old.
* Living Language's Ultimate German Advanced, equivalent to two full years of college-level study. 7000.
* Colloquial Estonian - 4000. Bought this in 1997. I have the tapes for this so if you have a means to turn them into mp3 files I'll give you the book for free in exchange since that lightens the load even further.
* English - Romanian Phrasebook with Useful Wordlist. 1000. Another book I found in Calgary second-hand.
* English - Norwegian - English concise dictionary. 3000.
* Berlitz English - Finnish - English pocket dictionary. - 3000.
* Random House German - English - German dictionary. 3000.
* Latin tiny Ofxord dictionary, like the French one above. 2000.
* Barron's Russian Grammar. 3000.
* A Grammar af the Kabardian Language - 2000.
* Langenscheidt Pocket Turkish - English - Turkish dictionary. 2500 because it's well-used.
* Webster's New World Pocket Spanish Dictionary - plastic-bound Spanish dictionary, small. 2500.
Language textbooks and dictionaries for Korean speakers:
* 페스시아어 강독 (Persian reader) - 1000.
* 불가리아어 입문 (intro to Bulgarian) - 1000.
* 프랑스어 회화 (French textbook, small size) - 3000. No CDs anymore but I think mp3s can be downloaded for free. I'll check up on that if anyone is interested.
* 이탈리아어 회화 - same as the French one but for Italian, 3000. Has CDs.
* 노래로 배우는 러시아어 (learning Russian through music) - 4500, CDs included
* دو زن (Two Women, a textbook for learning Persian through that movie). Dialogue in Persian with Korean translation, 2500.
* 핀란드어 필수문법 - complete Finnish grammar for Koreans. 4500.
* Y.E.S. Chinese textbook for Koreans - 1000. Was 7500 but not all that useful.
* 라틴어입문 - big Latin textbook for Koreans, hardcover. One of the best Latin textbooks for Koreans out there. 6500.
* 터키어 강의 (Turkish textbook for Koreans). 4500. Comes with CD.
* 이란어 문법 (Persian grammar). 3000.
* 스페인역사 - Spanish History, translated into Korean as a Spanish reader. Weirdest history book ever, seems to be half about how the Moops got their asses handed to them by the Spaniards. 2000.
* 베트남어 발음교본 - Vietnamese pronunciation book, with CD. 3000.
* 알기쉬운 포르투갈어 (Portugus Para Coreanos) - Portuguese for Koreans, probably the most underrated Portuguese textbook in Korea. 2000.
* 아라비안 나이트 - Spanish translation of Arabian Nights for Koreans learning Spanish. Like that history book above. 2000.
* 터키어 강독 (Readings in Turkish) - 3000.
* 성서 히브리어 입문 - Intro to Biblical Hebrew. 4500.

* 터키여행 - Travel Turkish, in Korean. Spilled some drink on it, free if you want.
* 영어회화자쥬자재 - English-Korean Practical Conversation Dictionary. More like a pocket phrasebook. 1000.
* 뇌우 - a Chinese textbook for Koreans using dialogue from a movie.
* Caf Spanish & English - a Spanish/English textbook for Koreans. 4000.

* 두뇌 혁명. Free.
* 장자 (내편) - 3000. Zhuangzi, the Taoist.
* 백제는 일본의 기원인가 - a book about whether Baekje is the origin of modern Japan (but not about a rabid Korean nationalist - he spends as much time shooting down their theories in the book). 3000.

Super basic iron - 3000. Bought for 10000. Used once.

Rice maker: 5000. Just a cheap rice maker, though nothing wrong with it.
Water boiler(?): 5000. Put water in and flip the switch and it becomes boiling water.
Electric blanket: 5000. Covers the whole bed, makes it warm. Bought for 35,000.
Mini fridge (46L): 50,000. Bought a year ago new for 105,000, very good condition. Looks like this: http://www.iceboxmart.net/shop/data/goods/1252921415m0.jpg
Info here: http://www.iceboxmart.net/shop/goods/goods_view.php?goodsno=25&category=001001
Cat tower: 30,000, bought for 110,000. 160 cm high, will send pictures if you're interested.

Free things:
We leave on the 18th and have some free things to give away too:
Wooden boxes: hollow boxes that stack on top of each other and books or other things go inside. Allow Windy the cat to demonstrate how they stack on top of each other:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUXW41VgEYc
That green stuff on the top is just felt we attached to keep them from slipping, so not part of the box.
Electric hot plate: free because the plastic in the front is a bit cracked.
Mugs: five Starbucks mugs of various sizes and designs.

* Misquoting Jesus by Bart Ehrman. The biblical scholar that got on the Daily Show for this, the book is about biblical textual criticism (i.e. how the Bible has been copied and recopied over the ages and the changes that took place). 5000.
* The Egyptian Book of the Dead (E.A. Wallis Budge). 5000. Love the binding on this book, it's a big softcover with a spine that never creases.
|
I might be interested in these two. Are they in near-new condition? |

The first one is in good condition except for two small rips in the oval section in the cover, one to the lower right of the scholar:
https://www.episcopalshop.com/images/Misquoting%20Jesus.JPG
and the other directly below. It had them when I bought it as there was one copy left and I had been looking for it for a while. Besides that I'm very particular about my books (I put them individually in a bag of their own when I take them out of the house).
The latter is about 15 years old but in perfect condition, much like its subject material. |

Okay, two books have been officially sold and a few others are on their way. In addition to some other household supplies to sell we'll also be giving away some stuff in a few days that will go just a few days before we leave. Probably a bed, sofa, hot plate, that sort of thing. I'll add those once we've finished making a list. |

I'd be interested in buying the following:
Making out in Chinese
Living Language's German Without the Fuss
Shopping Talk - Chinese textbook for English speakers focused on shopping dialogues.
I might be interested in some of the language textbooks that are in Korean (depending on how much Korean is used). |

A good number of books have been sold now though most of the non-English books are still there. I added on a number of household items to the main post, some of which are free. There are a few more things that haven't been added yet so expect another update in a few days. |

The TV, washing machine and some other things are sold, about twenty books as well. I added on a few more household items and also if anyone has requests for free stuff I could see if we have anything. Oh, we also have a big sansevieria plant to give away too. It's a bit taller than a chair and for some reason grows really well - plants usually die on me but this one is doing great for nearly a year now. Bought it for 40,000. |
