I am trying to remember the name of the actor who was the star of this cop show in the 90's and then he recorded a song which went to number 1 also..

I don't remember much except he had a kind of big nose.

any idea?

Jimmy Nail! He had a few hits but I don't know if any of them got to no1 - most famous for being 'Oz' though in Auf Wiedersehen Pet.

Thw cop show in question was called 'Spender'

Didn't he do a cover of an old soul tune? I bought one of his singles on 7" vinyl and left it on a roller-coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.
