Hi,
Wanted to see what was the correct way to notarize a diploma copy. Do they want the notary stamp on the actual copied diploma or will they accept the notary wording and stamp stapled on the second page.

What's the proper way to copy the diploma? Is a notarized photocopy sufficient? |

| I would contact your state apostille to find out what they require in order to obtain an apostille on the document. You might want to also contact the school you went to and they may provide the service for you and save you a couple of steps. |

Just be careful, someone I know took it to a bank notary (free notary) and it got rejected because the bank notary didn't know how to notarize a diploma. Can you believe that?
Take it to a notary that know what he/she is doing with a diploma. I believe the answer is on this thread:

just ask your school. When i got my diploma notarized it was like a 3 step process in my state.
1) had to get it copied and notarized by the school's office of trustees
2) had to take it to the clerk of county or something and get it stamped/verified
3)apostilled by the secretary of state.
Mine has one stamp and some info on the back of the diploma copy, 1 page attached from the clerk's office, and then 1 page attached from the secretary of state.

Just ask your university's registrar office make a notarized copy. @ omgitsmax, why did you do your "step 2"?
Then send it to your Secretary of States office for the apostille. I've already got mine back with an apostille. |

The requirements (how-to) vary from state to state (if you are American).
They vary from country to country if you are from one of the other 6.
Canadians need K-consulate certification and not an apostille.
You DO need a COPY of the diploma legalized (notarized and apostilled) and NOT the original. (a photocopy is fine).
Immigration will no longer accept your original (if you use it you will lose it because they will treat it like a copy).

I've read through a few of these type of threads but this still isn't clear to me.
Must the diploma be notarized by the school? Would any notary do? |

Not all schools will do that. I called the Registrar's Office of the uni I graduated from and was basically told they don't and have a to nice life................. |

No, the school does not have to do it. It is just nice when some schools do and they provide a full service deal like sending it to state to be apostilled. I lucked out that my undergrad school did all that for me, but for my grad school degree I will have to get it notarized (not by the school) and sent off to state all by my little ol' self. |

They aren't checking if the diploma is authentic, they are notarizing that the copy is a real copy of the original diploma.
They will compare the two, validate that they are the same and notarize the document as being a true copy. |

I thought that this whole process was to stop people from using fake diplomas. If Korea accepts copies of fake diplomas, this whole process become a pointless hoop that we have to jump through. |

I would think that would be why we get the apostille. Just from my experience I thought that was how it went. I could be wrong but I don't think it is the notary publics job to determine if it is a fake diploma, I am not sure how they could. |

| I honestly don't think kimmi cares. I went with mine, they asked if I wanted a copy of it and they proceded to pull out the special grommets that made it a legal apostillisation in order to copy it. |
