I want to start saving things from Youtube onto my hard disk. What is the best program to do this? Is it fairly straightforward. Is it possible to save vids from other websites such as yahoo or cnn? |

go to download.com and search for Youtube Downloader. It's free, simple, and can even convert the videos to other formats once they're downloaded. They also keep it updated pretty well after Youtube updates and causes problems with new formats or whatever. |

http://www.ant.com
they have a couple of downloaders (depending on your browser of choice) for embedded flash videos.
It works on most sites and you can change your default directory/folder for downloads.

I have to ask the question, why save Youtube vids? They're there all the time. You can play them any time you want from Youtube. Why save them? |

I want to use them in my classes. Sometimes I may not have an internet connection where I teach or sometimes the Youtube speeds may be too slow to watch. Not good for keeping the classes flowing smoothly. |

I use www.savevideo.me for saving videos from youtube. It's also useful for saving videos from a few other sites. |

Not true as there are many times when a video gets taken down for copyright infringement etc. Totally makes sense to save the vids if you can.
No buffering issues if you save and your lesson isn't screwed if the internet connection is wacky. |

just to warn you, if you save youtube vids, it gets saved as an .flv file. and sometimes you can't delete it, the file will be stuck there. had it happen to me so i googled it and apparently it's a problem that happens sometimes. |

The link I provided above produces both FLV and MP4 files. |

I take the points about saving YT vids.....
Another point......does anyone know an easy way to upload longer than 15 min videos to Youtube?
I've tried a couple of freeware programs that claim to be able to do this...but they uploaded in very poor resolution.
Is splitting video manually in video software the only way to do it?
Surely with the mass usage of Youtube there is a program out there that can split longer videos and upload them to YT at a decent resolution? |

youtube upgraded my account by letting me upload vids that are longer than 10 min. i think they upgrade your account once you upload a certain amount of vids. i'm not sure what that number is though. |
