I'd open a Kimbab Nara before any of the things listed in the poll. Decent variety, reasonable quality, very cheap, lots of potential for carry out.

I was going to say 김밥천국, but I guess kimbab nara would do too.

I can't imagine Lotteria competing with McDonald's and Burger King abroad. At least not when it comes to hamburgers. If they focus on Chicken, Salad, or something else I'll give them a slightly bigger chance.

If either of those opened here in the States, I would be a happy man. I'm surprised neither one has tried opening up a branch in LA or NYC.

The ultimate Korean fastfood restaurant that would do well abroad would be a bibimbap/kimbap restaurant that is modeled after Chipotle/Subway. Of course you would need some healthy options like grilled chicken and brown rice.

Yeah I agree with this. I think a huge difference between the North American and Asian market is that if you're going to open up a fastfood restaurant in North America, you need to offer *choice*..at least superfically. So 10 types of "fusion-style" bibimbap will go better than one type of authentic bibimbap.

Anyone who thinks a "Toast" joint would take off in North America has clearly been in Korea too long and is stoned off too much kimchi and soju. I can just imagine me taking one of my friends for a "Korean sandwich!" ( "It's awesome! You'll love it!"). I would expect the reaction would be "WTF is this? You took me all the way here for an effin grilled cheese sandwich with ketchup, cabbage and other crap on it?!?". And I say that as someone who loved the toast places, but I think that was rather about breaking up the monotony of Korean fastfood rather than toast being a true culinary delight.

There's a Korean fastfood place where I live now that has managed to make a living by selling fusion foods. "Seoul Chicken" (buldalk ,served as a meal) and "Lemon Chicken" were two choices that had me scratching my head, but the Seoul chicken was a hit with all my co-workers.

And Lotteria? It's downright disgusting. I don't know how it survives in Japan/Korea let alone North America. Much like the Isaac Toast idea, it would be a Western interpretation of an East Asian interpretation of a Western cheap fast food. Yikes, I wouldn't even know where to begin with that one.

The makgeolli and pajeon idea, I don't really think it would take off here, but man, I'd love it if it did. That's actually one of the very few truly Korean things that make me nostalgic about Korea.

Kimbap Cheonguk near a university, absolutely refuse tips. Make a killing off of foreign and poor students.

You've got to be F*ing kidding! Lotteria is so unbelievably disgusting it's not even funny. It tastes like a cheeseburger and a garbage bag had a baby.

Kyo Chon is much better thank KFC but I would take BBQ or BHC over both of them.

This idea was referenced in a Korean Movie called 멋진 하루 (My Dear Enemy). The guy (Ha Jeong-woo) has an idea to open a magkoli and pajeon restaurant in Spain because he feels that Spaniards and Koreans have some things in common like being quick tempered, liking to party and drink all night, and food that is salty and spicy.

It's a really good movie, directed by Lee Yoon-ki, probably Korea's best director. It also has Jeon Do-Hyun, perhaps Korea's finest actress.
