i've tried the search and nothng came up. i've called 1345 twice and got two conflicting answers. i will be transferring and extending my visa soon. how many days will immi keep my passport and alien card for this? one officer said it is done in the same day, one said they will take your passport and alien card for 10 business days.

i have extended my visa twice and both times were done right away. but, ive never transferred. anyone done it at suwon in the same day recently?

im asking because i dont have ten days inbetween my visit to suwon and my flight home.

thanks Smile

They will keep your Alien card for the 15 seconds it takes to write the notations about the change on the back of it. They wont do anything to your passport. You get both back after the transfer/extension is complete - about 10 minutes.

Can they change the address on the card right away too?

Yup. They just write with a fine tipped marker on the back and then usually put a piece of clear tape over it. Done.

Yup, all same day while you stand there. The renewal/tranfer process is very lax and easy. Two coworkers just did it and it was painless.

Is this all according to the new rules where current teachers are exempted from having to show the FBI background check and all that? What exactly will I need to do for a transfer/renewal?

Like many things to do with immigration, it must depend on where you go and who you get. I just did mine yesterday and have to go back in a week's time to pick the ARC up. I did an E-2 transfer and an F-3 extension for my husband. I expected to get them back right away, but it was not to be.

Thanks eveyone. One last question. I will be completing my current contract before starting at my new school, therefore, I won't need a LOR letter from my current employer. However, I will be transferring my visa before I complete my contract. Will immigration take my word that I will complete my contract, therefore not needing a LOR letter?

Get a letter. Immi has always been inconsistent in what they may ask for compared to what is supposed to be required. There is no standard except for what your particular agent asks for when you are sitting in front of them. They even have that disclaimer now on the 1345 immi info line.

Update...Just went to Suwon for my e-2 extension and transfer. it was a quick ten minute process and the only documents I had with me was my contract, business registration letter, sponsorship letter, passport, and alien card. It cost me 30k won to extend and transfer. I got a green sticker stating my new employment and visa expiration date a month after my contract end date.

I don't have an FBI check nor a degree apostillized on file and the officer never asked for them. I didn't sign any letter acknowledging that I will have to turn them in the future.

I also didn't have a health check and I wasn't asked for one. I asked for a multi entry visa and was told you no longer need them.

Even though, the immi officer didn't ask for my Fbi check nor my apostilled degree, I'm going to turn them in anyways when they arrive next month Smile

Glad that went smoothly. Hope my job is still funded when I get back.
