Hey, heading out to orientation next week and I know I am going to Chungbuk. Who is also heading out to Chungbuk or who is already there who cares to share what the region is like?

If you are posted outside of the two cities (Cheongju, Daejeon) it could be refreshing or lonely. Depends on who you are as a person. I find myself doing regular trips to the cities to get my western supermarket fix.

Daejon is not actually not in Chungbuk its Chungnam. But everything else is true. Very country feel to the whole place, with only 3 cities (Cheongju, Chungju, and Jechon) you might be doing trips to seoul often.

Personally I like living in Chungju only about 200 thousand people but it can be rather boring at points. Either way good luck where ever you are

I live in southern Chungbuk and even though Daejeon is not part of the province it's where I go to hang out most weekends and some weeknights. I actually have no expirence with other places in the province except the capital Cheongju and even that is only for Provincial things like end of year dinner and meeting for cultural trips. If you live in Boeun, Okcheon or Yeongdong-gun's then you actually do your immigration stuff in Daejeon

don't worry if you're public school, you will meet a TON of people in orientation to go visit.
however, if you end up in a more rural area, you might well be one of only two or three foreigners in your town (only 4 foreign teachers in my entire town!) ... don't worry, public transportation makes it easy and fairly cheap to visit the cities.

Feel free to pm me if you end up in a more out-of-the-way area! We take road trips in our car pretty often, and are always on the lookout for other foreigners to meet up with nearby!!
