I just watched National Geographic's documentary "Inside North Korea", in which a surgeon corrected the cataracts of hundreds of North Koreans. As their bandages were removed and their sight returned, they gave heartfelt, chanted praise to Kim Jong Il as though he'd personally come down and "laid hands" upon them.
The fact is, he is their God. All good things come from him, all bad things come from outside (America in particular). Perhaps one day the leaflets the South sends will be paper-thin video displays, packed with hours of video from Seoul, Busan, etc. |

Yes from what little I have been able to discern, the worship of the Kim family is the driving force in the North. Not socialism , not working for a better society but loving the Kims. Very sad. Sickening indeed! |

Why, precisely? To disseminate information about the outside world? Never met a North Korean, then? |

To do what humans are fond of doing, showing them that our god is greater. |

Much of the worship is feigned. Neglecting to flaunt subservience to the dear leader is grounds for treason, and ultimately imprisonment and death. Virtually all defectors who escape the north -- without being shot -- immediately cease the 'worship'. You're correct in that brainwashing is a "driving force", but not as great as fear. |

You can download the nightly newscasts from Chosun Central Television here. http://www.elufa.net/ Most of the leftist brainwashed "teachers" I meet in Itaewon will love this stuff. |

Just for people who don't know this. South Korea's KTU (Korean Teachers' Union) is the biggest pro-North group in South Korea. |

On the elufa.net site, you have to scroll down to the "KRT" area. Click on that then choose your Pyongyang news. This site was designed for N. Koreans in Japan. Recorded in Dandong PRC from a feed in Sinuiju DPRK |
