I know that E-2 visa holders are now qualified to sign up for two-year contracts with KT for phones. I know that the requirements are very simple and straightforward--in fact, one of my colleagues just signed up for an iPhone 4.

What I'm wondering is whether I can walk into a KT global store and obtain an iPad on contract with a data plan. I've done some research, but I can't quite determine whether this policy adjustment extends to the iPad. I really want one, and I don't necessarily mind purchasing one outright...but if I could obtain one on installment as part of my monthly data bill, that might be even better.

I tried to walk in to the Gwanghwamun location last weekend, but they told me they only offer English language service on weekdays. My Korean isn't quite good enough to discuss the terms of a mobile contract...:-/

Yes, you can. 2 year commitment. By default the payment for the iPad is stretched out over the course of the contract.

hmmm...
well, i don't know. my wife went to the jongno global store tonight, and they would NOT give her an ipad because she's on a one-year visa (i.e., E-2). she has more than six months of validity left, so i don't understand why they were uncooperative.

any suggestions for a *good* global store (or any store) where they actually honor KT's policy for foreigners? :-/

Does your wife already have a phone on an installment plan? If so that might be the reason why she wasn't able to get one... The Seoul Guarantee Insurance Corporation places a limit on our ability to open installment plans for foreigners to 1, with the exception of a few visa types.

As far as I know, the Gwanghwamun store has an English speaker on staff on Saturdays until 7pm. I've worked with that store closely, and I know they will help you out as much as they can, or at least tell you the exact reason for why something cant be done.

They recently opened a room on the 2nd floor specifically for expat and corporate customers, so give them another try. If there's still a problem send me a message on twitter, and we can work together to find out exactly what's going on. ^^
