Arrived last week in Chuncheon, to start contract at Hallym U as faculty teaching advertising. Temp staying at international guesthouse.

First of all, I know it's vacation, but there is one thing (among many other things) that I do not understand: how come everything's CLOSED?

Ok, so I found an open place with Korean porridge, as well as a sandwich in a Family Mart. Good thing alcohol's available and cheap too. (I'm from Canada.)

But still, I don't get it. I've lived in several countries and was even born and raised in Eastern Europe, but this place looks like a wasteland.

(Yes, I've read most of the threads in the forum...Smile

Join the Foreigners in Chuncheon facebook group.

Take a taxi to Kangdae Humoon and/or Toegaedong.

There's over 100 foreigners in CC, probably more - Check out Sheriff's in Humoon or Tombstone, near HiMart, in Toegaedong.

There's lots going on in the city, you're just looking in the wrong places Smile There are also a lot of great people working at Hallym right now, keep your eyes peeled!

Ok, I have to revise my impressions of Chuncheon.. it's not as lame as I thought the first few days... it actually seems like a much larger town than its quarter of a million people. Of course I have yet to find out where and if there is any night life... Like tonight, for instance, I don't know where to go, but just may try to find this Sheriff's place...

Sheriff's is easy to find - get in a taxi and say "Kangdae Humoon" - they'll let you out at the Dunkin Donuts intersection at the front gate of Kangwon University. Sheriff's is about 3 or 4 doors away from DD, third floor, look for the sign. Enjoy!

You want night life? Just wait until the Mime Festival rolls into town!

It appears I may have to wait for this festival then... I went to Sheriff's Bar on Friday night, and while I'm glad I met some great ELS teachers there, the place was lacking in other departments. Wink

The two other bars we went to after that were even worse. And hearing that there's no dance clubs in town was the clincher for the night.

I'm not sure what kind of dance club you're looking for but there is a booking club that has a large and active dance floor. I thought the night life was pretty good for such a small town.
