so I am going to Thailand and I will have either 1 or 2 months off depending on which subject I'm teaching. I need some advice on what to do for that long of a time. My visa is good in Korea until the end of March, but I lose my apt on the 28th.
Parameters: Can't fly back to US-too expensive. Looking at 2 million won until the middle of March then I will have more. Looking to stay in Asia(all of Asia is included) Looking at 3 weeks at least in a cheap, chill place
Questions: Is there a bungalow on some beach that I can rent for several weeks at a time? Is there a train trip I can take for a week or two? What would you suggest? |

March, April and May are too hot in Thailand.
The Philippines can be very cheap for long stays (rent a semi-furnished bachelor suite (or nipa hut on the beach if that is your preference) for about $100 per month on Bohol, Camiguin, Negros, etc).
Food at the local carendaria is cheap (p20-30 per meal + drinks).
If you have some cooking facilities you can cook for even less (local produce and meats).
There is also a minimum of a visa hassle (60 days with an advance visa) and extensions are easy to get (in 2 month increments) for up to 2 years.
Flights from TAG to BKK (via MNL) run about p6000 (one way).
Where will you be working, BKK?

I'd probably head to Louangphrabang and spend a month in the anti-Korea, but that's just me. |

You won't find it on the internet.
There are apartments just up the hill from my brother-in-law (Mactan/Cebu) that usually rent for that price (partly furnished). You can get dorm type rooms (but I wouldn't) for as little as $20/month. In places on Panglao.bohol you can find places (semi-furnished nipa huts next to the beach) on the east side of the island (going north from TAG) for between $50-100.
As another option, land and find a pension house in the town of your choice. They will often negotiate a long term stay ($300 per month in places like Cebu (or less outside the main cities)) or $100/ (or less in places like Tagbilaran)/ week for short term stays.
Then ASK around. There are always bachelors places in the provincial cities for that price.
Alternatively, head out a bit into the province. Just about any town large enough to have a supermarket will have houses to rent for about the same price (but they won't have any furnishings). Just ask at the market or the local bakery/restaurant. Someone will know someone.
Shouldn't take more than a few days to find a place.
Alternatively, you can find small apartments for short term stays (1 month) for about 3000 baht /month just outside of BKK with easy access to the beach or the city.
