I'm looking to find some suitable medicines to replace lost minerals and such, since she is unable to eat or drink anything except water without throwing it all up. Does anyone know the names of reasonable food-replacement medicines available at the pharmacy?
I am currently travelling outside of Korea so she is at a loss for what to do, and there is only so much I can do from here. She cannot go to the hospital due to lack of health insurance. -_- |

Even without insurance, she can see a doc for like 7000W, and unless he's giving her medicine made of gold she can get 2 or 3 days worth of medicine for under 10000W. |

Depends on where you are. He said they are not in Korea.
Where are you? It might make a difference in the answer. |

Read it again. It sounds like HE is out of Korea but she is not. If she's not in Korea, asking here is pretty pointless. |

I've had food poisoning and it isn't fun. I strongly suggest she go to a hospital. |

Tell your friend to drink diluted Gatorade or pick up some re-hydration sachets from her local drug store. The best thing for her to do is avoid all but the plainest of foods for a couple of days and plenty of bed rest.
A drug called Buscopan used to treat stomach cramping can be bought at your local drugstore without prescription. |

Personally I recommend not going to a hospital unless it's really bad and lasts more than a couple of days. Most cases of food poisoning will pass after a couple of days and the use of antibiotics may make it worse, which Korean doctors are only all too willing to give people. |

If you can't get oral rehydration mixes then you can make some. Here's the recipe:
Half (1/2) teaspoon Salt
Six (6) teaspoons sugar
One (1) liter of bottled water or boiled tap water
Slowly sip throughout the day. |

You're right, my bad. I agree with your post, then. |

I've never in my life been so violently ill than when I had food poisoning.
It overcame me so quickly that it did require a hospital visit with the
help of friends.
I agree with slade's advice...staying hydrated is priority. Then have
someone pick up some rice gruel meal from one of those "juk" restaurants
to gain back energy and accepting solid foods. Stay away from anything
containing milk or fried in oil.
Just for the record, I got it from a burger king whopper in the states. I've
never had food poisoning since I've been in Korea. It must be the kimchi!

I'm just getting over my first case. I didn't go to the hospital because based on past experience my GF and I don't really trust Korean doctors.
Anyway, watch out for overripe cherry Tomatoes, yep. |

Try to drink some watered down gatorade. Half water/half gatorade. It's got electrolytes and stuff. |

Ok thanks, I'll pass those names on and hopefully she can find them easily. Is there any reason the gatorade has to be mixed with water? |

Yeah, so she gets more water. Drinking a lot of fluids is crucial when you have food poisoning. Plain water might not be all that palatable when she's ill, but straight gatorade has a ton of sugar and acid in it, so a lot of it might give her sour stomach. |

Good reason to see a doctor: Are you 100% sure its food poisoning? It might be a more severe infection with similar symptoms. Well worth the money to have a lab test done and get some prescriptions filled in. |
