|
|
I'm currently finishing up my contract at my school (3/31) and I plan to go back home for a 2-week visit, then return md-April for the new job. I'm wondering if I need to stop by somewhere and get my visa before I go back into Korea. A buddy of mine told me that if I get a letter of release from my school at the end of my contract, then I don't have to stop by and do a visa run. Is this true? Is there any way that I can avoid stopping over in Japan to get my visa. There has to be something I can do at Korean Immigration, right? Also, it'll be super hard for me to go to a Korean Embassy back home in America because I don't live remotely close to any of them.
This could be a lame question, but any help would be much appreciated. |

You need a letter of release from your old school. After that it is fairly simple. Just go with the new school to immigration. Make sure you don't need a criminal background check or anything else that they may have added to new rules.
I did it in 2009 twice and it was rather easy. If you leave Korea though without doing this, then you will need to get all documents again. So, get it sorted now with your schools. |

Get everything together or you have to do the paperwork again.

If you find a new job that starts within 30 days of your old one finishing
AND
you can complete the paperwork within the last 7 days of employment
OR
complete the paperwork AFTER your employment ends AND BEFORE your ARC expires you CAN do a transfer without the necessity of a visa run to Japan.
********
IF your ARC expires
or
Your time between contracts exceeds 30 days
you cannot do a transfer and will need a full set of documents and need to do a visa run to get a new visa for a new job.
You only need a LOR if you are doing the paperwork for a transfer while you are still under contract to your old employer.

I don't understand.
If you're going home-Why can't you just the visa process from the USA? |

Speaking with immigration on Friday, if you are transferring your visa to a new school after completing your contract you don't need a LOR. However, Korean Immigration being what it is that could have changed since then. |

If you transfer before the contract is up(or imediately after) AND there is still time on your visa, they'll transfer without having to submit NEW docs.
Hell, I still haven't submitted the FBI background check....they didn't even ask. |
