I just got me E-1 and my university is pestering me about getting a CRC sent over to the police department. WTF? I don't understand why they are saying they need it when I have been issued my visa. It just sounds too silly because they said I would not have needed one if I didn't just return to the states for vacation this past month.

Anyway, I am gonna send off for it but I just don't understand why this is a requirement for the police department.

It is not for government purposes.

It is strictly an employer requirement.
It is their right to ask for it and it is also their right to terminate you if you fail to get it.
(under 6 months of employment with them and you are a probationary employee under the labor standards act).

I didn't think it was gov. required either. I know they (the school) can require it-no problem with that. The the thing that gets me is they keep saying it is a legal requirement etc. I told them I would apply for one and they are cool with that-even if it takes a few months. I just don't want to be hassled with having to do it when it isn't necessary, same with the health check they are asking me to do. I'll do it, it's just annoying. Not even sure they why they distinguish between E-1 and E-2 anymore. Every Uni that I interviewed with for e-1 positions kept saying a FBI CRC was required. anyway, i am gonna get my prints taken next week and start the process.
