Just curious..... since that's the way it's done a lot in the Korean man's world: secret bank accounts, yadda, yadda.

A good reason why women who aren't or haven't ever worked shouldn't be controlling the money:

I'm not sure if that's as bad as the fact that he's lived in Korea for 8 years and doesn't know how to operate the boiler in his own house. That ain't right, dude.

Of course my wife controls the money! That's what 90% of Korean families do. It's even more logical in our case because she's Korean (and a professional accountant) and we live in Korea! So she handles all the complex bank loans, car contracts, Jeonsae, contracts, paying bills, querying bills etc.....because she speaks the lingo!!

If we lived in my home country then obviously I would do it all.

Any married guy here who says he controls all the money must have awesome Korean skills to handle the job.

I do have cash in my account for when I need cash....but I usually just use my Samsung credit card.

He said he used it years ago in Seoul. He didn't know about it in this particular apartment.

Good questions though: is it cheaper to use some electric heating devices, as this guy suggests, rather than the gas-fired floor heater?

My gas bill is currently around 200 K per month, and I wouldn't mind paying less.

I agree with Eamo.
Speaking the language on near native level is important in order to handle the financials. I simply wouldn't be able to find the same interest rates, deal with internet-gas-whatever provider, take care of contracts etc. as well as my wife does.
There is always cash at home (a bit old school but we like to spend cash. Easier to controll the spendings and see how much is going out.) It's not hers nor mine, it's ours. When it's gone we get some more. I also carry my wife's Samsung cc for transportation and just in case if I don't have cash.

People have a general idea of how much the utilities cost. All one would have to do is give the wife an allowance that includes money for the bills. I don't see how getting an allowance or even money to pay the utilities is considered "controlling the money."
