Howdy all,

Having made it 28 years in this life without a tattoo I think I may be finally ready to get one. I have heard good things about Tattoo Korea. Is this the best spot? looking for someplace clean and safe.

Also where is a recommended place to get my ears pierced? My holes have closed up. I would also like to know if there is any place in Seoul that sells septum retainers. ditto on the whole clean/safe/sterile thing. hep is for life y'all.

Getting a tattoo in Korea is like getting plastic surgery in Mexico. Sure you can do it, but it is probably the last place you should look. It's like moving to India and then deciding to become a jazz musician because it's the first time you can afford a trumpet.

I don't think I've ever seen a foreigner with a tattoo in Korea that could be described as more than "decent".

Yantai China!! One hour flight from Seoul. Go to Raffles bar on Chao Yang street , they speak English , they will direct you , best tatoo artist in Asia. There is also a ferry to Yantai from Busan and one from Incheon.

Chopsticks in Japan is very good but expensive. I hear Jakarta is an excellent place to get a tattoo.

Rustbot, don't listen to these people. I always find it funny when those who have never been tattooed, know nothing about tattoos and, generally, fear tattoos like to open their yaps about it and fearmonger. Quite funny.

As someone that has had multiple tattoos done in Korea, I can say that I've been happy with the work done and all the places that I've been have been professional and hygienic. I've had no health problems related to my tats here. I've been quite satisfied with everything from the quality of the ink to the touch-up process.

As far as Tattoo Korea, yes, I've used them before. They do good work. My biggest complaint with them(and I posted this in another thread) is that they expect YOU to name the price instead of giving you a price. This automatically gives the advantage to them. This is a terrible business practice because it puts the onus on you and that is a big no-no. They are looking for your business and they need to be kissing your butt and making YOU feel comfortable with everything. As a result of their business practice(not the quality of their work), I have gone elesewhere. I also think their studio is too small and gets quite crowded(usually with military), so they ought to think about expanding(although probably tough because unless you are a doctor, tattooing is illegal here).

The thing is, do what makes you happy. Don't listen to a bunch of anti-tattoo people on here who have never even had a tat. There are numerous tattoo parlors here(especially in the Gangnam area). Just go and check them out. Check on the ink they use. Check out their hygienic practices. Check out how spacious the place is and how much privacy is offered. PM me and I'll give you a couple of locations that I use here.

i've gotten tatted twice in korea. first time was by a guy named shim in hongdae and that was a good experience but he left for germany or something like that.

then i went to another guy at konkuk university this year with my gf. nice guy, but bleh experience. the ink is cheap or something because on my gf's tat, some of the lines lost it's clarity.

anyway, just be wary of prices that are too high. the guy i went to back in the states charged 100$ per hour for black and grey ink. the artists here seem to charge based on size. anyway, let us know how your experience went.

You've yet to see a well done tattoo in Korea? Boy, that's a laugher. What's your definition of a well done tattoo? I doubt that your OPINION of what constitutes as a quality tattoo would be taken by anybody who has ink. As I said, I've had multiple tats done here and they are all very good quality. Believe me, if they weren't well done I would be ripping the the shop and artists.

Oh, and there IS a tattoo culture here. You just don't see it because it is underground. But it is there. Just because something is illegal doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Obviously it is not as developed as some of our countries, but it is there and guess what...it is growing.

You would bet that there are far better artists in the west? What logic is that? There are better artists in every country. You could compare artists the world over. The US has good tattoo artists. The UK has good tattoo artists. Korea has good tattoo artists. What kind of point are you actually trying to make with that zinger.

Seriously doubt that you have any ink because you don't know what the eff you are talking about.

Hey WCT, I don't have 25 posts to PM you but have a question for you. I plan to go Tattoo Korea to get a 3/4 sleeve done with San Lee. I like the work she has on the website. You say that you have to name your price right? What price should I go with? If I do name a lower price does that mean they would then use ink that is not of high quality or is there no difference in the ink they use? Any info or other advice would be greatly appreciated.
