|
|
Greetings from Australia.
I am seeking a six month contract and thought I may try asking posters on the forum. I am not having much luck so far as I am mainly receiving solicitations from recruiters. I'm an Australian registered teacher and can only commit to a six month gig because I have matters in Aus that won't allow me to be away for too long. If any of you guys or gals know of a six month gig hit me up.
I have excellent referees, police clearance, mandated completion of a teaching round etc. I am a good teacher. If its any consolation to the principal/manager of the school, I will forfeit bonuses and perks, but not passage. E-mail me in the inbox. No need to start a thread.

6 month contract from abroad isn't going to happen.
12 month contract and leave at the mid term is certainly possible albeit not really ethical.

Since you already started a thread... =)
I know that English Villages will hire for 6 month contracts and include airfare (I know several people who have done it and no, they weren't already in Korea). The people I know of work at the one in Bundang, but there are a million of them. Do some research-they're kind of wacky, but if that's an option, you might want to investigate it more...good luck! |

I have also known somebody to finagle such a deal--he was here for about two or three months, and I assume he would have secured airfare to and from the US. ttompatz is correct, however, in that the VAST majority of positions will not even consider you for a position if you are up front with them about only wanting to be there for 6 months, let alone providing you with airfare to get here and back. And why should they? Securing a visa can be a pain, and you are asking them to do it not just now but 6 months from now for your eventual replacement? I realize you are eminently qualified, but you will be working in a business where those qualifications don't rank so highly. In any case, good luck!
(For the record, my friend worked in an English Village in the middle of Nowhere, Gyeonggi-do.) |

| I am experiencing knockbacks that is true. But I am content to forfeit bonuses. I posted this because there is always some mishap that requires people to repatriate. So even if I take over their contract that is good enough. |

| I was recruited from Australia, and my original contract was for 8 months... but that was after a lot of screwing around by the Aussie recruiter so it was more like six. But my situation was a lot different to others as i was recruited by an agent in Australia not online. |

For a short-term contract you will NOT receive a bonus; those are generally reserved for 12 month contracts that are completed. If the pay is high enough (many of the camps for the english villages have you working a fairly intense schedule and therefore offer higher pay for the duration of the contract) would you be willing to fly yourself home? |

| I have been applying for English camps of six month duration contracts but still no luck. And yes I would fly myself home, but I would need passage covered inbound to South Korea. |

I'll ask my friend to see how he managed; but I'm not sure when he will get back to me. He secured the job during peak season for the English Village style camp--late December through early February. All of the students have that time away from school, and their parents enroll them in these intensive camps. You may be having trouble because it is the wrong time of year. |
