It feels like the apostille is taking a lot longer then the fingerprints. I thought I would have mine back by now but no word on it at all. |

I haven't read everyone of the posts on this thread. There are 10 pages after all. But I have read enough to notice one interesting thing that I wasn't aware of before.
And that is this. That you can get your FBI CBC apostilled by your local state's Sec. of State instead of the national Secretary of State. So, I just want to confirm that. Is that true? My local state Sec. of State is much easier to deal with than the national one, so I hope it's true that you can do it that way.
Thanks. |

One of the many threads about this subject talks about that. There is actually one that was started that lists which states do or do not do that. You might want to find those. |

CBC came back exactly 1 month after I sent it to the FBI. I sent from Seattle, and it came back to my parents house in Seattle. Very very short time. I paid with a USPS Money Order, and sent the envelope "Priority Mail".
I didn't apostile it yet, since Korean immigration extended my visa due to an FBI check being on file from a while back (forgot about that one!). |

I'm just going to start the tracking of my CBC adventure.
Sent it express to the FBI on Feb 9. They failed to sign for it the first day (Feb 10th), but it was delivered today, Feb 11th, at 9am.
I've already contacted one of my senators, and I'll be trying to make a mad dash for March. Wish me luck. |
Credit card was ran on Feb. 26, 15 days after receipt of docs. |

They barely ran your credit card after 15 days, you're not going to expect it for another month.

| Got an offer today to start teaching in Mid-May. Woke up, got fingerprinted, filled out the forms and sent them Priority to the FBI to get done....evidently I live in one of the states where the SoS will NOT sign off on my forms so I will have to have that done by the US Dept......it's going to be cutting it seriously close I fear. |

Hokie,
it sounds like you can get same day service either in one of the states that will apostille, or in DC with the State Dept. If you are in West Virginia, DC isn't a long drive, is it? |

Can anyone verify if the FBI does not forward the results to a secretary of state even if all of the details and payment information is there??
Sure would be nice to process the apostille a bit more quickly. |

Not residing in WV but DC isn't too far of a drive from me, plus I have a lot of friends down there. So that would be doable. Thanks. |

This is just the time to get the FBI background check. 7 weeks. If you're overseas in South Korea, what you would do is forward the background check to an apostille agency address like Apostille Pros, www.apostillepros.com
They will get it notarize and apostille and mail it via FEDEX to South Korea. This process takes 2-3 days from the time they receive it. So 7 weeks for the FBI background check and 2-3 days for the notary and apostille to be sent to South Korea.
If you're in the U.S., you can do it yourself or have an apostille agency do it for you.
For FBI background check prints, just look at your prints, if the prints are smeared, do it again cause the FBI operator won't be able to match the prints to their database; then you're just going to wait another 7 weeks. So the important part is the taking the prints on the FD-258 card or the online printable fingerprint paper.

On 28 Jan 2011, I sent my fingerprints to the FBI via Korea Post's Express Mail Service (EMS). I got my FBI report w/ the agency's seal and section chief's signature today via FedEx.
Will try to send the FBI background check to the US State Dept either on Friday or next week. |
