She sounds like a pampered princess to me.
- She couldn't find a Caucasian female? GASP!
- She had trouble crossing the street at first? GASP!
- Street signs written in Chinese? GASP!
- And the worst of all . . . she saw . . . a giant black and orange beetle!
NNNNOOOO!!!! |
Exactly. I'm just glad you typed it for me. Who would have thought things would be different in another part of the world? Shocking. |

This woman sounds as if she could never cross the Canadian border into the US without trauma let alone live in Asia. I lived in Taichung for my first job in Taiwan and I adapted well. I spent my spare time walking around trying to find my bearings which is why unlike this woman, the lack of English language signs didn't overwhelm me. Obviously she is one of those ethnocentric whites who expect to find other countries a mini Canada or whatever.
So she smelt the sewer type smell - big deal. Korea's got it, other Asian countries have got it, not frequently but at times I smelt it in Japan. As for dirtiness, has she ever had the delightful experience of trying to avoid dogshit in Paris? And how terrible - a pig's snout hanging up in a butcher's shop. To me a headless carcasse isn't great either. Wonder how she'd go with the horse carcasses in a few European countries?
Obviously she's never spent time in the poorer parts of Eastern Europe - Taiwan beats some of those countries anyday for safety, food, and weather and Korea beats them for safety and food. Cockroaches? Canada has none? They enjoyed my hospitality many times in Japan and I thought the flying cockroaches in Australia were remarkable. A massive two thumbs down to this woman's complaints and it's a bad reflection on the newspaper that published such an uninteresting and juvenile piece. To make it worse she wasn't alone - why the hell didn't she and her friend spend time exploring together instead of bi##ching? |
