i downloaded a movie and am trying to use these subtitles on it. but when i view the movie, the subtitles are in these strange characters, the same kind of characters you see when korean language isn't installed on your comp.
this happened on my school comp too, and i know if i use gom player it'll work, but i don't want to use gom player, anyone know how to fix this problem? |

Open the file up in a text editor and save it as unicode-8. That's the theory behind it but I still haven't gotten it to work. |

why not use GOM player? It is similar to VLC in terms of quality and stability and it has a wider range of compatibility. |

For the win, GOM all day long for subtitles.
I use the korean version of GOM, I think it has slightly better subtitle support? Nor entirely sure on that but even with limited Korean it's easy to navigate, if the subs are slightly out of sync or something like that. |

Gom player and also the underrated KM player. KM player has some pretty awesome features and more powerful than gom. |

What language are the subtitles? If they're Korean (or any non-English language), then first you have to make sure that the font you are using supports that language. Next, you might have to change the "Default encoding" setting to match the language of your subtitle. Both of these options can be set from the Preferences -> Subtitles & OSD screen.
The font I use is ARIALUNI.ttf (it's about 22 MB) and the default encoding I use (for Korean subtitles) is "Korean (EUC-KR/CP949)". |
