I don't understand why they shutdown airports? Not like a volcano erupted?

I'm guessing it has to do with the structural stability of the runways. They take a lot of pounding. Wouldn't want a jet's landing gear to punch through a sink hole

Hey everyone, chances are your families & friends back home imagine we here in Korea might be geographically impacted by this -- mine did. They appreciated a quick note saying not to worry.

This morning (Sat), alJazeera is reporting a nuclear emergency at two plants in Fukushima. A radioactive cloud has been vented in an effort to reduce pressure. There was some technical talk I didn't really understand.

Anyway, an additional source of concern to complicate the devastation from the quake yesterday.

Is there anyone else a little concerned about the nuclear reactors? I hope the officials are not downplaying the situation.

I'm in Niigata. (Northern Japan).

Yeah, we're very concerned about the nuclear reactor. Tons of aftershocks here all day and all night long.

I'm not too far from Sendai or Fukushima. They are basically a straight line across from me.

Almost unimaginable the mortal disruption. Many here in Korea & all over the world watching breaking video & deeply sympathetic. Hang tough & best luck.

I haven't seen any of the channels even talk about the USA coolant yet. Then again, I don't know Japanese but my friend has been translating the important things for me.

A nuclear expert was just on and said that because there is such little liquid in the reactor, it will take a very long time to explode. However, he said, if the inside of the container has been broken, then we have a lot to worry about.

They sent people to try to find a solution but they all died. I don't know if it was caused by the nuclear waste or the tsunami or what...

Only a bit of the waste is leaking so far.

Now, for the one plant, all of the video is being taken by a black and white picture so I'm assuming it's a remote controlled aircraft.

Another tsunami is on its way...

Also, the earthquake has been moving seems to be coming in my direction (SW)
