I actually found a great job.
Did my research, did NOT go through a recruiter, talked to past and present teachers, got a good feeling from the owner.. ETC
Love being at school so far,
the kids are nice and the owner helps with everything and anything from helping me buy things at the street market to paying me absolutely on time and for everything before I even have to ask.
Except theres no foreigners to hang out with in this town!! |

Everything is not what it seems. I had really expected the PS job to beat the hagwons, as I have heard stories from 03 to now that are mind blowing. It didn't. I would never work PS again. Ever. Period.
I work at a uni now. Uni jobs trump all regardless, IMHO. In the general sense, you're treated with a lot more respect and accountability. Like a human being. |
Good post. I had similar experiences. |

I accepted a position with a "chain" hagwon school I guess you would call it...was initially nervous about it from reading the horror stories on this board but honestly, the majority of the posts on this board are negative because if you were having such a great time at work in Korea the last place you would go would be to talk about it on a message board.
With that being said I tried to do some background work with this particular school and didn't go through a recruiter, the individual who contacted me is the Head Teacher at the school and as a fellow American whose been there for over 4 years. He told me out of the 11 foreign teachers they currently employ 7 of them are on at least their second contract with them and the turnover is very low. Looking at it from that view point I feel like it could be a very good gig. |
