I have a proverb question.

A Korean asked me to explain:

"The man has a finger in every pie."

Any suggestions?

Perpetrating scams in all possible sectors?

I thought it must mean this, like having a claim on all of the goodies.

I was told that it was more like Zees, which means to me something like "having a lot of sticks in the fire":

"A finger in every pie"-I think means that the person is involved in many different persuits....like, if there is something going on,(projects, clubs, organizations) that person probably has "their finger" in that "pie".
That's my interpretation anyway.
It could also mean the person is nosey, but I think it's what I said above.

But that doesn't make as much sense to me.

Well, I THINK zee is right-"being involved in many things". As I remember that proverb, there's nothing necessarily "sinister" about it....

I think of it as someone who's involved in eveything, but also sort of a power thing like a politician or lobbyist who has influence on every committee, with the media, etc, but maybe that reflects my political science major.

"He has his fingers in many pies"...is not a proverb.
It is often used in British English to talk about someone who has various business commitments...Or in other words someone who has not "put all their eggs into one basket"

Isn't this more for like people getting out of prison? They are bound to commit again.
