i live in itaewon. it is a very convenient place to live. some people there only like being with foreigners sure. my roommate and i are the only forieng friends we see there.
if you only go there to geckos or ... some of the dive bars you will get bored. hongdae is much better for nightlife, imo. the convenience of hanving nightlife in your hood is unbeatable tho Smile

oh, namsan tower is visible from my rooftop and it loks so cool all lit up at night Smile

Here we go again. Some people have a massive bee in their bonnet about Itaewon, when there isn't anything to get worked up about. Like anywhere, some places are good and some bad.
I neither love it or hate it. It's simply where the nearest half-decent pubs are to my apartment. I'm too old for Hongdae and the club scene, so a few pints of good beer and a game of pool is enoughfor me.

We really enjoying living in Itaewon~ especially the Upper Kyungleedan area close to Namsan Park. It's amazing up there at the park! It really makes a difference. The ethnic restaurants and bookstores are super! It's central and so easy to get around the city. In regard to shopping, there are many other inexpensive places throughout the city that are more preferable. Overall, I love Itaewon.

I think it's a fun and interesting place. I also don't understand those who keep saying, "it's not Korea''.......um, actually, it is Korea!! It just happens to be the probably only truly multicultural area of Korea. It's just as much part of Korea as NYC is part of America. New York is multicultural, but people don't say, "well, New York is not America".

Also, the 'Twon haters are often the kind of people who have never really strayed away from the super-safe suburbs and college bar areas in their life. They've been quite sheltered. Itaewon is very low-key and safe compared to many nightlife areas around the world......

......Going out for a Saturday night in some areas of my hometown (Belfast, Northern Ireland) makes Itaewon look like an old ladies tea party!!

I'm a country boy at heart and in Korea live out by the sea in a berg of under twenty thousand. When I do put on cuffs and collars and head in to the big city, invariably I wind up in Itaewon.

Compared to own upbringing (hometown? No, home-lonely-stretch-of-Canadian-highway) I find Itaewon to be a pretty interesting and multicultural place. If you hail from New York or Vancouver you might consider it to be a bit pedestrian, but being able to drink Irish beer and eat Thai food AND chat with heavily-painted lady boys in the same town tickles this yokel just fine.
