Be careful eating at food prepared by street merchants, folks. Recent inflation is strapping stall owners who can't turn a profit.
I saw a blurb about it on a national Korean news channel a couple days ago but couldn't find any link.
Who knows where that pig's foot has been before service. |

The fact that I don't ever see street vendors washing their hands is enough to keep me away, but still...

I would trust a street vendor more than a small restaurant. I've seen what goes on in the back rooms and kitchens of some restaurants, and some of them would really put you off eating out. The only difference is that you can't usually see it. With the street vendors, you can more or less see how they're cooking stuff. If you see it in the hot oil, boiling water, or fire, you know that it's not been sitting under a heat lamp for the last few hours. |

I stopped eating there when I saw one opening in the morning. The 떡볶이 from the night before thrown back in and mixed with more gochujang and that oily water with the odeng to make new 떡볶이.
Not fresh. That's my issue with their food, moreso than the sanitation. |

I've seen and heard about banchan recycling so this isn't surprising to me. |

One place I eat at pretty often.. I kind of encourage it. There are certain side dishes I just don't dig, so as soon as they bring me 'the assortment', I send a few back - never touched. I see no issue with them re-suing those ones. In turn, they bring me more of what I like. ((but yeah, I know this is a far cry from some of the nastiness that some places do)) |

Not just the free stuff either. If you order 비빔밥 often they throw the 반찬 random green vege type things and some twigs and leaves onto a bowl of white rice, some sesame oil and hot paste, and there you go.

That's some deformed pig.
A good tip is to scatter or strew the side dishes about the bowl or plate in order that it looks to have been touched. This will hopefully lead to more disposal of the food item. |
