If a game is out for PC and Console, I usually get the Console version, but I would add to the list here:
World of Warcraft
The Sims series
Monkey Island series
Civilization series (I wish my current rig had the power to play Civ 5)
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
SimCity series
And I have to admit I really liked the Strong Bad games, but they have next to nil replay value. |

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest some free Indie games that everyone should play.
Seiklus (exploration side-scroller)
Knytt (more or less the same thing as the above)
Karoshi 2.0 (must-play side-scroller, awesome concept: each level your goal is to kill yourself, it gets progressively harder to do so)
I know I'm forgetting a whole bunch, just check out www.TIGSource.com. |

Mass Effect 2 needs to be on there.
Arma 2 is definitely an FPS that everyone needs to try out. It's buggy but it has more replay value than anything else on the market, plus it's going to be so worthwhile when Project Reality mod releases for it.
The best FPS coming out this year is going to be Red Orchestra 2.
I personally can't tolerate the Call of Warfare: Modern Black Ops VIII or whatever anymore... too arcadey/spammy/unrealistic. Not to mention there are ten year olds screeching on their headsets constantly. I like FPS games that require IQ points. |

in no particular order:
Gothic 4, Mass Effect 2, Divinity II, Crysis: Warhead, Fallout: New Vegas, Dragon Age 2
Can't wait for the second installment of The Witcher. |
Ditto on The Witcher. I was going to check out Gothic 4 though I haven't played the predecessors. How are the graphics? I wish they would make a new Bloodlines. I might download some of the FF series since I haven't played any in awhile...also downloaded WoW and was going to play Cataclysm on a private server...god help me. |
Gothic 4's graphics were amazing. Some of the best I have seen in any game of the past few years period. Gameplay was good, but not ground breaking.
Gothic 2 and 3 are also above average RPGs. They are more in the style of the elder scrolls while gothic 4 is more like Fable than I really cared for. Still worth checking out though. |

Why?
Console usually pale in comparison to the PC. Even when the game is made for a console (barring nintendo wii or some other motion type game)
Graphics are better on the PC
Controls for every single game are superior on the PC. Hell, if you like gamepads, you can use the PS3 controller for your PC or buy a replica Xbox one.
Prime example: I played Devil May Cry 4 on the PC and on PS3. The PC blew the console out of the water in terms of speed, resolution and graphics. I use a PS3 replica controller and got the same experience.
If you are talking about FPS or RPG, just forget about it. Controls are so much more intuitive on the PC with no crap tastic menu scrolling like on consoles. |

Mostly because my PC isn't high end, but with a console, any games I get for it are going to work.
For example, just got Civ 5 off of Steam, and all it does is instantly crash when I run it. The likely cause of the problem seems to be that I misjudged the specs of my computer, and am out of luck till I get a new graphics card or maybe even a new comptuer. |

I played Fallout New Vegas, but after all the hours I put into Fallout 3, it felt like 'been there, done it'.
Just Cause 2 is a fun sandbox game, that looks fantastic but runs smoothly even on my mid-range spec PC. Much better than the hugely overrated GTA games that need a NASA supercomputer to play. |

If you liked AC1 and 2 you should give their latest one a try, Assassins Creed Brotherhood. Great game! |

| There's been a new MechWarrior game in the pipes for a while now, since like 2009 I think, but I haven't heard anything about it for a long time. |

PC versions are not always better. Bad Company 2, recent COD episodes, and Grand Theft Auto IV all come to mind.
Not that the PC doesn't have games to rival/best those. Just sayin'. |

Huh? I can play GTA Vice City on my incredibly wimpy netbook at decent settings. Probably San Andreas too. My maudlin, four year old desktop is above minimum requirements for GTA 4, but I haven't tried it, so I can't really say. It tore through Bioshock with nary a hitch and did OK with Fallout 3.
Just Cause does look interesting. Thanks for the mention. |
