|
|
I am purchasing a gift for someone.
It's going to be either a iPod touch 4 or a Galaxy media player.
I can't decide which one is better.
It will be given to a Korean person.
I know with iPod - you cannot change the battery, insert additional memory chips, and unless its jailbroken - you have to purchase everything through applestore and use iTunes, etc.
whereas, with Galaxy player, you can have additional batteries, you can insert an additional memory chip, and you can put any applications you want onto the player, by just plugging into in (via USB) into a computer.
The only thing iPod seems to be better in, is that it has retina display - although its screen is smaller than Galaxy player.
anybody have experience with both - which one would you recommend?

It sounds like you've answered your own question. The Galaxy media player seems to have everything you're looking for.
It looks awesome and they have a 4" screen version and a 5" version as well (I've had a hard time finding info though).
It will have a better camera than the iPod touch too.
I would definitely try to get my hands on a working model first though just to see how well it works. |

Another plus for the Galaxy Player is that it has DMB (TV) while the ipod doesn't. Might not matter to you, but it does to a lot of Koreans. |

Thanks for the helpful replies.
I was leaning towards the Galaxy player - but didn't want any regrets after purchasing it.
(I recently purchased an iPhone and regret it - wish I had purchased the Galaxy S). |

Three points for ipod/ against the galaxy player are
the app store, there is simply more selection in itunes than the android market.
How it looks, ipod has a metal back and is streamlined, the galaxy player is plastic with a glass (?) cover for it.
How many accessories are there? Does this matter for the giftee?
Plus, what does the person you're buying for want? Apple products are popular here so the person may want that instead of a Galaxy product.
I just put these in because while everyone has made great points about the Galaxy player, I just wanted to add some points for the ipod, even though they are minor points. |

Have any of you been able to find info on the new Galaxy S media players?
I want to check out the Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 but all I've seen are press releases. No prices yet. A 5 inch screen may be a little too big but I'd like to give it a chance. |

I picked up a Galaxy Player a couple weeks ago and so far I'm really happy with it. I've never owned an iPod Touch, but I've had iPods before and really appreciate not having to deal with iTunes now. Drag-and-drop for putting media on the Player is nice. The Galaxy Player also has GPS capability, which I think the Touch lacks. Someone already mentioned DMB, too.
I haven't spent enough time with a Touch to compare the screens, but the Player's screen definitely isn't shoddy. The device is slightly bigger, but I don't have an issue with that. The back is plastic, but I suppose it's sort of necessary as it lets you remove it and access the battery and microSD.
Another thing to consider is Android. If your friend uses a lot of Google stuff, they might really like going with Android. The Android Market is smaller than the App Store, but there's still loads of good stuff and tons of free stuff. |

Though the screen sizes are impressive, those prices are not very competitive. You might as well just buy a tablet computer. |
