Just out of curiosity.

I don't drink myself and have a difficult time getting other people to accept it. I don't drink because it makes my stomach hurt, gives me a headache and knocks me out. It does nothing positive for me at all and it makes the next morning hell and a half. I don't give people a hard time for their drinking and I actually do go out with people sometimes, I just limit myself to one or two drinks max and then start slamming back coke or water. This does not go over well with the sort that insist you try to keep up with them.

Most of the foreigners I've met since I returned to Korea have fallen into the "drink like we're still 19" category. However this might be because I chose to live in central Seoul this time around. Hopefully when I move out of Seoul it will be better... which is why I started this poll.

I'm curious to know about all about your drinking habits and whether or not it's just a Seoul thing or if it's an everywhere thing Razz

I'm been living in Korea on and off for years but was lucky enough to have a small, tight knit peer group in the first few years which means I have no sweet clue what the rest of you foreigners do.

13 years in Bangkok: Average 1 beer (0.5 l) & 3 margaritas a week

Within six months of arrival in Seoul: 6-10 beers (0.5 l) a night, 2-3 nights a week, some whiskey chasers, tequila shots, Jaegermeisters... Crying or Very sad

I'm down to Fridays and Saturdays drinking now, unless the company goes out for soju dinner or lunch.

Never did any 16 hour pub crawls in Bangkok either.

And while I'm at it, I ate less meat in Thailand too.

It's a common experience.....when you go with the flow in Korea there's a lot of meat eating and drinking.......which suits me just fine!!

I have 2 drinks per night, either 2 beers or 2 glasses of red wine.

Usually 2 or 3 bottles of soju a night. On weekends, I crack open the makkoli as soon as I get out of bed and don't stop until Sunday afternoon.

Vacations? Wake up, drink, get drunk, pass out...repeat, repeat, repeat.

Living in a satellite city at the moment, I can say with some conviction the foreign social scene is actually more focused on alcohol here than it is in Seoul. I'd imagine that this becomes more pronounced the farther out you get.

Not as often as I'd like. There's been an influx of non-drinkers in my town over the last few years. It's sad, really.

Not here on Jeju. Lots of get togethers without getting drunk.

I used to be a near nightly drinker, either with friends or alone. Anywhere between a few beers to a pitcher plus a bottle of soju to a lot more on weekends.

I've recently severely cut back though. No drinks at home unless it's on a weekend. Mostly stopped because I feel like I was rarely getting drunk - I just went straight to headache and drunken munchies (or weight gain) mode. Plus I figure I might shed some lbs by not being drunk and needing a 4th meal at midnight.

I seem to end up in bed a lot earlier too. I'm still not sure if this is entirely a good thing.

moving to seoul from a smaller city i expected to actually go out more, but find that i go out way less.

i drink once or twice a week max. before i moved to seoul, it was three to four times a week... it was also my first year and all of my friends were also newbies so i suppose that played a role.
