Being a Muslim country has no bearing on your experience of Turkey as a foreigner (unless you want it to). Having spent time in both countries, I've had many more Koreans try to convert me to Christianity than I have Turkish to Islam (which has never happened).

For the record, I'd definitely teach in Turkey if I knew I could have a decent standard of living while still saving some money.

Good point. I've been to a dozen Muslim countries and only once or twice has anyone even suggested I convert. Korea, on the other hand, my goodness...

As others have said, Turkey is one of my favorite places. Very friendly people, great food, beautiful locales. the most liberal Muslim country in the middle east.

Contrary to what one poster said, very FEW Turks speak much English at all. German is the second language. I loved travelling around the country, but it was one of the few places I've been to where I genuinely had a hard time finding an English speaker when I needed some directions or help.

Who's the 'job posting man?' Is he someone we know? A man who's job is to post jobs?

Does the job posting man want to teach in Turkey too?

Oh, all these questions!

I lived and taught in Turkey several years ago. It was, for the most part, a very positive experience. I was in Istanbul. As I used to joke, I lived in Asia and worked in Europe. I took the ferry to work and back home again.

As others have noted, it is a beautiful country and historically rich, with fabulous food and very friendly locals. It was an unforgettable year.

There was an ad in the paper this morning for Istanbul for 2010-2011 school year.

You know anything about Dilfem English Center? Seems legit enough.
