My elementary PS is making me take an online course starting soon (I'm new to PS, but not sure if that makes a difference). I don't really care too much; I think it's over 2 weeks and is like 14 hours or something. I wonder if this sort of thing is common. It's a course based in Korea for NETs.
The funny thing is, it's about co-teaching and my co-teachers rarely, if ever participate in class. |

My school is trying to make me take it too. It's my third year with the same POE. Their excuse is that NETs need 30hrs of training each year. The online course they want me to take cost 60k won and they want me to pay for it.
I laughed and I hope they take that as end of discussion, i'm not doing that crap. |

You'd have to pay? No way.
My school is paying for it, though my co-teacher seemed to make a point of this (them paying) as if they're doing me a favor. |

How long have you been at your school? Did you go an orientation? |

The school pays? If yes, then do it. And do it during your desk warming time. |

I had to do what I assume is the same thing when I arrived in September last year.
It's a series of lectures on topics pertaining to teaching and life in Korea, presented by the ever mild-mannered Carl Kwon. It's not so bad, and the anticipation wondering what the crazy wardrobe choice will be for the next installment makes it almost exciting!
And yeah... the school should pay for it. |

Yup, it's standard.
It's also just one guy's opinion on how things should be done.
On the other hand, he's probably a decent teacher... a little dry, maybe.
And I'm not sure how he spends two hours planning each lesson every time if he's always playing 'Go Fish'. |
